Glad my memory isn't completely shot Dusty.... we saw so many places over our 17 days, it is hard to remember where what was and when!!!!

From Cherokee the first Inn is Pisgah Inn on top of Pisgah Mtn. A great place to spend the night with excellent food. The next best place to stop for the night is Little Switzerland Inn 30 miles North of Asheville. I try to be there on a Friday night because their seafood and prime rib buffett cannot be beat! Their breakfast buffett is wonderful too. Great views from both these locations. Klingmans dome is the bald rock formation referred to earlier. The viaduct around Lynnville falls is a structural marvel too, considering when and how it was constructed. There is a nice motel at Doughton Park with beautiful fields behind that always have deer and turkey roaming thru them. There is a little resturant there that has the best fried chicken you ever wrapped your lips around. Another of my favorite spots is Maybrey Mills at the Virginia line. They still make their own flour and they have the best pancakes there too. Peaks of Otter is another good place to rest your bones and eat some good chow. Did I mention the views are simply breathtaking at every turn?! I should weigh in at over 400 pounds but somehow manage to stay in the 180 range. There are just too many sights I love to see each time I travel the Parkway. And now you all are making me want to get an early start this year! Bernie

The viaduct Is Klingmans dome a different place to Clingman's dome? Clingsman's dome is the highest point in the Smokey mountains and noted by the walk round tower at the top. Breathlessly I have walked to there twice once 12 years ago and then again this last September and been in the top of the tower. The other thing I remember about Clingsmans dome is seeing all the firs devastated by the bug that destroys just the one type of tree, the Frazer Fir. Looking at the map of the BRP the rock pictured by Dusty must be the Balsam mountain, way down the other end of the BRP. We stopped for coffee at the Pisgah Inn, but didn't eat there because we thought the prices were a bit high. If I remember rightly Mirror Rock wasn't too much further on, if I have remembered its name correctly.

The Overlook was obviously a bit further south than I remember as we were pretty much face on to the bald looking face of it. Mind you, we did stop at just about every pull off to either snap a shot or just take in the breathtaking views.

HI I took it from skyline drive down last fall on the way to Calhoon. I very much enjoyed it, took it nice and slow. I spent three days and i'm not compaining but one and a half of them were in the pouring rain. This spring I intend on going back and doing the whole thing again, this time with more sun. I hope. Tom

I am working with CYBORG on the ride routes for Randakk's rally in September and most of our rides will have part of the BRP on them. "Unfortunately" I am going to have to go up there several times this summer to make sure the routes are good

Winger77, what western side are we talking about? I think you may have a case of 'the grass is greener...'. My mapquest tells me you are no more than 5 hours from the entrance of Skyline Drive. Out here on the flatlands you'd see every bike in town head for that road on the weekends. It don't get better than that. I've ridden coast to coast in both Canada and the USA and I'd give an eye tooth to be that close to a road like the BRP.

I was talking about the western states. Co., NM, Ut, Wy, SD, ect. I've always wanted to see the west and I did it last summer. I truely get a strong calling to go back there again,,,,,,,,,, and I will. I am limited to how much I can travel due to getting time off work and avalible funds. And I do realize the BRP is not all that far from me. So it may just become a spontaneous trip sometime in the future.

You guys will not believe it! I got home last night and Lois said to me, with all the motorcycle classes you are teaching, you will have worked 26 days without a day off. Then she said she wanted us to hit the parkway for a few days the end of April visiting all the spots we have been talkiing about! Can you believe it! Will probably take the Vette as she doesn't ride the bike but it will still be a great trip! Bernie
