Hi everyone, This is a little long so if you want to skip the history lesson, just jump down to the CHASE section below... Sometime back I started this thread: http://goldwingfacts.com/forums/view_topic.php?id=45132 In it, I described a situation that was likely to cause me to have to turn another direction in my career than the one I was on at that time. In it I asked you for your advice and many of you provided very valuable advice, which I took to heart and have been grateful for ever since. It is good advice for anyone facing the unemployment wind. Funny thing is... the pending change I described in that thread has since been replaced by a merger instead. As a result of that merger, I have been presented the opportunity to apply for my own position. And of course, the minimum requirements now exceed my level so despite applying for it, it is highly unlikely I will get it. Highly. No matter though... because the track you all put me on, way back then, has been evolving ever since. Up until 1994, I was an electronic product design engineer/programmer as a contractor for various companies and clients. I switched to database development when the market for electronic manufacturing in the US fell through the floor. I'm good at both but I decided with the wind in my face again and my love for motorcycles after 40 years of riding, I really wanted to embrace the motorcycle world as a full time career. Throw all that in a blender (and the concerned glare from one life partner) and I decided to jump back to my engineering self and design things that I knew I wanted for myself and to make those items from the best components engineered to live a long life in a harsh environment. It has been like coming home. So I started with what I thought I wanted and started building a few prototypes and made many changes. I ran one of the first products in my 1500 for several months, getting the thing refined, and making more changes. I worked with a few wonderful and giving members on various boards to act as advisors, testers, design reviewers and brain trusts. Then drawing from my years of manufacturing experience, went through the whole thing to make sure I could provide the highest possible quality and most flexible features at the lowest possible price. This will be a standard in all designs. So cutting to the CHASE: I now proudly introduce the first in a line of Rudy's smart motorcycle products to you. Take a look at the first of the line here and feel free to let me know what you think: http://smartlight.rudysproducts.com The website is still very green and in development (first things first). I have had my attentions focused on the product development and testing more so than other areas. Two new additions to the line are expected by mid summer this year and I have some exciting ideas to add in the near future as well. Feel free to ask questions or make comments here or by email. The initial run of this product will be very limited while I make sure the flow of manufacturing is running the way I want it to be. Orders will be taken on a first come, first served basis. You don't have to purchase now to get on the list but you can if you wish to be in the first run. I expect 4 more manufacturing runs between now and July 1. I will be donating a few promotional evaluation units to Steve and another site in the next week. We are committed to international support but don't yet know what the international shipping costs will be. I have a few ideas about how that expense might be minimized, cost wise and will be talking to wexy about that soon. Stay tuned for release information about this and the other two products which will come out soon. Last but not least... win or lose, pass or fail, this product and business model is directly the result of the advice and support you all provided to me at a time when I needed it. It is your product as much as it is mine. For that I say THANK YOU VERY MUCH! Thanks guys. Ray, short answer yes. All of the product line is intended to expand to the other models as soon as I get my hands on one of each of them long enough to engineer the harnesses for them. The line is engineered to be completely modular and so each harness is independent and the firmware in the Smart Module can be coded for each model as needed. So if you come visiting and you see me out getting the details of your bike, you will know what I'm up to.

One good question that came up already is.. "How hard to install and how long does it take?" It is all plug and play but if you use the LED that is supplied with it, you do have to drill one hole to mount it in. You could use some other surface mounted LED of your choice to avoid the hole if you wanted to. Let me work with you if you want to use another LED to make sure everything works well with it. The Smart Module and all the harnesses that come to it are intended to sit under the front of the rider's seat on top of the gas tank. The hardest part of the install is getting to the gear switch connector to insert the harness. Honda stuck that up front under the right side fairing pocket and under the vent duct right there. Not hard but you should plan part of a day to get at it and get the parts back on. You can also postpone installing the gear switch harness until your winter maintenance and still use the other two main functions until then. You will need a short jumper to do that if you so choose. That is what some models without gear switches will be doing. That gear harness is fairly expensive so those that have no gear indicator to plug into will be able to purchase the unit at a lower cost.

Thanks PP. As a side note... you won't be seeing that board I'm holding in that picture on the web page. It will be a 2 inch by 2 inch by 1/2 inch block of black epoxy by the time it shows up at your door. Just thought y'all would like to see it first.

wda-83wing wrote: HAY--dont for get the 1100s . Not to worry... all GLs that want them will either have a PnP harness available for them or will adapt easily to what they already have. Just that I only have one GL harness designed and built so far. Won't be long on the rest...
