Rudy, I knew there was something special about you, even before we met on one of your rides through Alabama. Now I know what it was that made you stand out. You really love helping us keep our wings in the wind. Nice site, and wonderful that you are working for yourself! So many years we all work for the paycheck, instead of for ourselves. You will do well sir,and if that little gem will fit my 99 1500 SE, I want one! You're alright Rudy.Godspeed with all your endeavors.Good luck!! Jim and Barb---Oh yeah, I wanted to tell you, that since I went into small busness for myself in 1988, I have never been poorer at times, but I have never been happier everyday since!!! Hang tough bud!

Looks good Rudy.  Very ingenious design and application possibilities.  Good luck my friend on your endeavors, and maybe Honda might notice and offer you something.  Good lord, they could use some realistic ideas other than adding XM radio and tire monitoring and jacking up the price 2 grand for it.:):clapper::clapper:

What a great idea, and sort of obvious in a way, except that nobody thought of it until you did.

I'll have one as soon as the 1800 model is available, I'd willingly lend you my bike, don't have much use for it here at the moment, but North Jawga is a bit far.

One concern I would have, what kind of protection do you have for your design? Trade secret is only good until the first competitor orders a module. I expect you have thought of this already, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.

That's an excellent point. Ignition harnesses for the 1200's come to mind.

Good luck, Rudy:waving:

I'm with UBarW on that, after reading the site, it would be a great change out. With problems starting to rise at 60k to 70k, if not before, I would like to get that changed out at the 50K and hope to avoid problems.

That is a valid concern.  I fully expect someone to try to come out with some 'me too' type of product if SmartLight does well, and I'm sure people would buy any old turd biscuit that anyone conjured up if it looked cheaper.    Problem is, they would soon either cut corners or drop features and quality to boost the margin.

There will always be some of that.  Then again, there is always interest among many in quality products, customer service and someone around who speaks English who can actually help them and make adjustments for individuals with special requirements or just need a hand.

There are some protections in force is this design.  I would rather bring them out as needed, however.

Thanks for the thoughts.  And yes, any engineer who has ever built something has to worry about those issues.

When you do an 1100 can you add the kickstand indicator down somehow?

That would probably be a "yes" and I'm betting that would include the non-starting feature, like the 1500's.

Just guessing......

Some people want it that way and some want visual only and some others want a buzzer.

In any case that will be something that will be addressed once I have the harnesses for the pre-1500 models.  But it is planned to be included once I settle on the pickup switch scenario I like best and how we are going to accommodate each person's wants for action.

There's a lot more coming folks.  Good input from everyone.  Thanks

The only genuine question I would have would be how would the unit function on an 1100 or 1200 that has had an alternator conversions? Any differences to consider?

Not, really but you may wish to choose a lower detection voltage point so you don't start getting a bunch of false positives.  Really doesn't matter what system it is on.

Good question.  Thanks.

We've had a small production change and I wanted to make sure everyone was aware of it.

In the photo where I show the picture of the raw board on my site page, that board has all of the connectors attached to it.  That was fine for the few prototypes we built but we are finding in production, getting the epoxy to stay where we wanted it to stay is very difficult and time consuming with those connectors attached directly to the board.

To solve this issue, we will be providing delivered products with short wire pigtails coming out of the SmartModule epoxy and then to the connectors.

This won't affect anything functionally or cost wise but will look different than the photo shown so I wanted to make sure everyone was aware of it.

Don't worry you will still be able to clean it in the dishwasher if you want to.

Thanks.

I prefer pigtails to soldered connectors in mobile applications anyway. I don't know how many times I've had to take some device apart to re-solder cracked PCB traces caused by connectors vibrating in place, because of stresses put on them by the wires connected to them.

Well, I must admit that I've not been watching the goldwingfacts forum very closely of late. Rudy, I want to wish you the very best in this effort. It looks like a great idea, and to make it universal (more-or-less) to GLs is a pure stroke of genius! I will be very interested when the 1800 version is available, and to see your other "Smart modules". Might even ride down for a face-to-face purchase on one of my company's forced vacations (so they won't have to pay out so much when the layoffs happen) come September.

One little concern, however  - you took advice from this lot?

Oh man Rudy, if you get the 1200 up and running and get a kickstand alarm for it I'm buying the whole deal. I da** near killed myself again the other day taking off of the center stand and then making a left turn. Thankfully the stand bounced up and back and it just made a heck of a racket. Along with a great loss of cool points.
