It is my humble opinion that Dave0430 deserves to be recognized for starting a very successful "act of kindness" thread while helping out a fellow forum member.

Kudos Dave for your thoughtfulness!    :clapper::clapper::clapper::clapper::clapper::clapper::clapper:

One more: at the beginning of this last spring after being out of riding for a year with a back problem; my bike had multiple problems keeping me grounded. I put a shout out on the Kanwing/Rhino thread; FreonRick and Flyone came over, worked half a day and I was riding with the group all summer! I appreciate my Rhino family and look forward to many many miles together!

I'd like to take time to thank those who have helped me out during my accident and recovery, the Arkansas Gang, AspectOne and Two, Dave0430, Lopeha, Monk, Mike & Kelly, and the many others who have sent me get well wishes, or have called to check on me.  It has made my recovery much easier to deal with, and now I'm able to return to work, although I'm not ready to ride yet, nor am I ready to do a lot of things yet, I would not be this far along without their help.  Also, I cannot forget my better half Keaula, who had to put up a lot dealing with me, she definately deserves a lot of credit.:clapper::clapper::clapper::clapper:

I stopped along side of the road today to help some guy push his HD onto the trailer his wife brought to pick him up. He was 200+ miles from home he said. He also said he was broke down for over 4 hours in the same spot, countless bikes came by and I was the only one to stop.
I wished him luck, shook his hand and followed them for about 10 miles to make sure his bike was secure.

If I ever get a Harley, I hope someone helps me push mine on the trailer too.

DaveO430. Sent me a GL1200 TPS  to use on a friend's bike last year.  For people that don't know, a fuelie TPS is almost impossible to find, and when you can find them, they're exorbitant.  Dave sent it FREE.

This past weekend, I came across the guy that has dave's TPS and he's still riding the same bike.  Without that TPS, that bike would still be parked and gathering dust.

DaveO430: good guy all around.

I always carry a set of tie-downs on my bike. You never know when you might break down, and need them. I have, on three different occasions, given my tie-downs to strangers on the road, who needed them more than I did. It bothers me to see someone in trouble, and I am glad to be able to help. Tie-downs are only aboout 5 bucks apiece, and I ask only that those folks "take a lesson", and pass 'em on to the next guy.

A stranger gave me twenty bucks one time (forty years ago), and he asked only that I "pay it back" to someone else who needed it. Well, I did, and I still do. I average about once or twice a year.

P.S.- I do not usually brag about it, or even mention it, but it seems OK to do here, on this thread................

Ed, a few years back, about 30 or so, same thing happened to me. and I have been doing the "return" ever since. Although lately I still do the random acts but I question myself with society the way it is.

But I will still do it until it bites me big time in the back side......Ho ho ho....happy holidays.....

I want to take a special moment here to record the wonderful things that the world and especially the folks living in England and Ireland did for my son.

He was working in Bath, England and upon trying to get home for Christmas break, was befouled by winter storms.  significant winter storms that cycle about every 10 years.

Just a few minutes ago, he finally at long last, was experiencing a plane taking off that would indeed deliver him to the USA once again.

It is a long thread, and will take a few minutes to go through it page by page. but if you did not experience this week long travail as it unwound, do read this one.

thank you, one and all, for making PJ's UK visit so memorable.  Your emails, phone calls, all made such a wonderful impression on him.

I will be forever grateful.

John

This is not meant to "blow my own horn". It is intended to highlight how far a little thing can go when someone is in need. The Hag and I were on a car trip one day and stopped in at a roadside rest area. We parked next to a sedan which was pulling a fairly good-size boat on a trailer. Father and mother in their 70s and son and daughter-in-law in their 50s. They had noticed the trailer wobbling and stopped to check it out. They found the pin had come out of their trailer hitch receiver and the insert had slid almost all the way out, at which point it got wobbly. Lucky they stopped or it would soon have come out leaving them pulling a boat/trailer combo by just the safety chains. Anyway, they had not a single tool with them or any idea what they were going to do about it. So - I reached in the toolbox, pulled out an extra pin I always carry, and stuck it in. Back in business. They tried their best to buy that pin but The Hag and I were having none of that. Now here's the wrinkle in the story - I had just bought a couple extra pins a few days before for less than $2 US on sale at the local farm store. I didn't really need them, they were just a great price so I stocked up. (Providence?) So like I said at the beginning - it was really a small thing for us but a huge thing for a stranger in need. Pay it forward gang, pay it forward.

Good for you. Now you can restock the toolbox.

Reading this thread brought to mind a small event from last years summer trip through Europe.:action:
I think we were in Germany, or Austria, on the homeward leg back to Ireland. There were about 4 or 5 in the group, when we pulled in off the motorway for a fuel stop.As we were queuing to pay, an animated conversation was taking place at the till, between a young woman, obviously distressed, and the lady behind the till.We overheard the young woman, speaking in broken English (she was Swedish I think)trying to ask for help, but the lady at the till spoke no English.
Anyway, to cut this short, we offered assistance, and discovered that when she was trying to pay for fuel, her credit card was rejected. So there being no cash dispenser, her husband arranged to drive to the nearest town to get cash. However, he got lost, and was on the phone, totally at a loss as to how to get back to the patrol station. He did not know even where he was, despite a GPS. To make matters worse, his wife, the young lady we were talking to, could not leave as she was a "guarantee" that her husband would come back to pay for the fuel. So...what to do?
Well, this was potentially awkward, what with the poor language skills. We were in no hurry, so offered to pay for her fuel, and if she was willing, to take her to her husband, on the back of my wing. (I was travelling solo by now...). After she and we spoke to her husband, we deduced he was somewhere further along the motorway, in a lay by, but not really sure. So, the techy with us, got the husband to figure out and tell us his co-ordinates from his GPS. We put them into our Garmins, and straight away we saw he was within 10 miles of our position.
So, we paid for the fuel, loaded up, I for one delighted to have company again, and gingerly placed a spare helmet on the lady's head, and off we set. We were after all, complete strangers, and bikers as well!!! (She must have been wondering to herself what she had gotten into) Within 20 minutes we spotted his car ahead, and pulled in. A joyful reunion took place, and grateful handshakes exchanged.Job done.

We all reflected later on the event, and hoped that the event would help to continue our good fortune and accident free holiday.

It did, we got back home incident free, after an enjoyable holiday, and 2 Treffens later.
