I am kicking around the idea of building an air conditioned helmet.AC unit could be built with off the shelf technology for under $100. Possible it can be adapted for older helmets in use also.

well I would say do it like i did to a vw bug I had a few years ago. I took an Ice chest and cut two holes in the side then put in abs pipe 1 inch od to run to  2 vents inside via hoses. I cut out a hole in the other side and ran a 1.5 inch hose to a fresh air sorce with a fan in between hooked to a 3 speed switch put a 50 lbs block of ice into and had cool air all day in 110 heat.  worked so well I used it for almost 3 years when I would drive down to mexico, it was nice to have cool air in my bug. I sold the bug and showed the new owner and he still uses it to this day. a 50 lbs block will last about 20 hours with air blowing over it.

Crash helmet with thermoelectric cooling invention       If I remember correctly, I believe this is what saw a long time ago. However I will do more research to verify my findings .

Thank you Drace51 for info. Yes I was thinking along the lines of t/e,but I can see patent infringement on the near horizon with no lawyer in site.

But there is nothing to stop me from makeing one and passing on the design and selling components.

I will be starting 1st proto type in mid Feb and we will see.

Didn't use ice, they were evaporators water passed over metal mesh and the air blew through them. We had a neighbor with an old car that had one in 1955, it worked pretty good on the Mojave Desert at Edwards AFB.
