I did a search to no avail...

What is the recommended battery for a GW1100?  Honda store only?

Give a look at eBatteries To Go for some different options.  That link was just a quick use of their cross reference guide for an '80 GL1100, but the 1100 and 1200's all use the same battery.

You'll find the size there, then you can Google for that size, and it'll come up with a ton of great options for you.

For quick, cheap, and good enough to get you through the season, you can pick one up at Walmart too.

There are plenty of cheap batteries available for a Goldwing but keep in mind that you only get what you pay for. Considering the fact that the battery is the heart of the electrical system I would suggest buying a good one. An example would be an odyssey model pc680. They will give you more cranking power, less maintenance, better warranty etc. etc. etc. Most Goldwing owners will agree, I'm sure, that a good battery will save you many future headaches.......

And a battery tender like a Battery Tender Jr (my personal choice) will pay for itself several times over as it helps keep the battery alive and operational far longer than it would otherwise. I used to buy new motorcycle batteries every year. Since I got the battery tender, I'm now on year three with the same battery.

I second what GS said ..Even though both of my Wings are down right now both of the battery tenders I bought from Wally World are hooked up....Plus I bought both of my new batteries from there too...$50.00 bucks plus taxes and warranty....If it does its job for two years then its good by me....

I bought "wal mart" style batteries for my wing twice . i wont do it again. they dont hold up very well and both crapped out in the middle of their second season.  just my 2 cents, buy a better battery. this year I bought one from Honda. Doesnt cost much more and some friends of mine are running 4 and 5 year old ones.   LP

Batteries Plus: X2-18L Gel Battery
A bit expensive, but you get what you pay for. The battery is rock solid, never gives me a problem, and is on year two and counting. I normally ride my 600 Shadow in town, so the old girl gets less frequent use, but I keep it on a battery tender.

Can't say anything bad about Batteries Plus either - they've been really good for not only motorcycle batteries, but everything else that requires a battery. On the one occasion where I had a problem the battery was tested, found to be defective, and replaced - no aggravation in the least.

Nothing will outlast an Odyssey PC680. They are expensive, but if you intend to keep your 'wing and want exceptional cranking power for years(at least 5-6)this battery is cheaper in the long run.

Ditto Dadoo, :goofygrin:just installed the odyssey PC680 on my wing after only getting 18 months from a Walmart battery and that was with using a tender.  Talked to several folks that have Odyssey batteries on their bikes for over 5 years.

wal-mart now carries AGM battaries for powersport applications. And i seriously would look into buying a charger that can properly maintain a charge in these AGM battaries.. Not just any charger will do. Battery tender, schumaker etc... AGM is a different type of battery all together. and the charge specs are completly different from gel types and lead acid. Knowbuddy
