An actual swap meet, don't know why, just never have.  That all changes today, there is a motorcycle swap meet at a small local watering hole from 10 till 4 today.  It is put on by a group called "Abate" I guess it's an orginization that is against helmet laws and seat belt laws.  I myself am pro-choice, and I choose to be this way because I don't think government should have the right to tell anyone they "have" to do this or that, this is still America (no offense to my friends in other countries).  However, since I have never been to one, and I don't think they will have much in the "wing" section, I'm still going for the experience.  I have been to a "christian mortorcycle rider" meet and it was interesting to say the least. So, here we go, and I'll report back later today.

P.S. anybody got any tips on any Wing swap meets comming up anywhere near the Fox Valley in Wisconsin??

P.P.S.  Does anyone ever get thier bike "blessed" before the ridding season??  We did 2 years ago at the CMR meet and we had a really good season, just saying......:smiler:

Speaking of blessing the bikes,  as a kid, I remember the local Catholic church had a blessing of the bikes every year during their fair. I was young, so my memory may be a little distorted, but I remember thousands of bikes being there for a day or two. That's probably the first step for me getting into biking.

Heh...I actually do whether I need it or not.  :cheeky1:

The pastor that rides with the local CMA group here is a good friend of the Club, and at the start of each season, he makes a trip to each one of our bikes.  I don't know if he keeps a list, or if he sometimes blesses the same bike more than once, but he's not yet failed to get mine the first time he sees it every season.

Well, this wasn't much of a meet that's for sure.  I think this was more of a club meeting that got slightly expanded and since I don't have a harley/buell I felt real outta place there.  There were some exceptional bikes on display and for sale there, some real nice chop jobs and a couple trikes too, and it was nice to look at all the bikes in the lot, but...........since I don't look like a "biker" and I don't drink at 10am in the morning (often) and I didn't wear my "colors" and I don't own a Harley, I didn't stay all that long.  It was interesting and I did see some nice stuff but with mama being outta work couldn't really afford anything and the old parts that were for sale were for bikes that were quite old.  Next time I will check out the types of bikes at the meet before I blow $14 on a quick tour but atleast I know when the next CMA blessing is (there was a rep there) and I have met some of them before and fit in alittle better even though most are Harley as well.

Nice to see people out and about on bikes, still the same old costumes on the Harley riders, CMA still trying to recruit me:action:  But I think I'll keep my bike it's a Goldwing after all and we all know goldwing riders are THE BEST RIDERS IN THE WORLD !!!!!!!

Thanks to Steve and everybody else that works on this site to keep it going strong, this is the best site on the internet !!!!!!!!

Those swap meets are all the same. Once you have seen one, you've seen them all!
The HD shop is putting on theirs in a couple of weeks. $8. to get in, I wont be attending.
I was a vendor there for the first 5 years (my first aid kits) and never made a dime. The chopper crowd isn't into safety items.

They have one every month at Veteran Stadium in Long Beach. I went when I first got my bike and it was mainly Harley and some Dirt Bike stuff. Don't tell anyone but I did buy a set of turn signals off a Harley for $5.00 and they still work fine:smiler:.

I have heard of those bike blessings. I am not a believer of blessing an inatimate object. So I get shot off the bike and the bike keeps on two wheels and comes to a complete stop hitting a log pulling the side stand down.
I have seen some of thos eguys getting thier bikes blessed and then cutting off other motorist while givving the finger frequently.
BLESS YOU MY SON.

the abate is more than fighting motorcycle helmet laws they also fight for rights for motorcyclists and actually have rallies with "rodeos" that challenge drivers to be super cordinated i saw a guy try it on his big ultra classic riding on 2x4's trying to stay on them and not fall off of them teaches you cordination and throttle control they fight against helmet laws but still leave the choice up to the rider

There's a few of us on here that are CMA members. I prefer doing the prison ministry.

When i go down and visit mom i usually try to do it on a date with the swap meet there in long beach. Though mostly harley stuff and bicycles Ive scored some nice goldwing parts just scrounging around. Being goldwing items i usually get them pretty cheap. Last month i scored some nice original  75 tank panels and top  that were super nice as was the price. I love motorcycle swap meets. JB

I like the vintage bike 'junk' meets :) The one in Woodstock Illinois for example. It's not a huge SHOW. It's mainly lots of folks with box upon box of old parts in boxes. You have to look real hard but you can find lots of items. A few years ago I bought 10 sets of dog bone risers for Hondas and only paid $7.00 what a deal:)

As far as blessings go, I've had mine blessed every year. Sometimes by a Catholic Priest, sometimes a 1%er who is ordained, since I'm ordained sometimes I do them.

CMA, the local CMA group by me mostly ride Goldwings, so I think they are pretty open to whatever you ride.
