Been collecting parts for a compete brake rebuild on an 82 1100, just about ready for the job but am curious if anyone has brought a brake line from the rear master cylinder to the front left brake cylinder? You got better braking didn't you? Was looking in the history and thought this was a grand idea. Have you done it and did it help? Is it worth doing? Bobalou

If you got the complete system off an 83 it would work fine. You probably would not want to do it without the proportioning valve.

I haven't checked but I'd get the whole enchilada off the 83. It's quite possible the masters and calipers are different sizes. Plus you'll need the proportioning valve.

There's also an increased fluid requirement to "pump" both a front and rear caliper - the rear master cylinder on a coupled set-up should displace more volume as well.

Moto Guzzi had their linked system like that. Many Guzzi riders chang over to conventional brake line routing after crashing one. As you approach zero traction that front wheel will lock up and you'll be on the pavement before you can say, "*#@&" Ask me how I know. I crashed mine on pea gravel and my buddy crashed his down hill on wet grass at Guzzi ralley. You can end up in a situation where you just won't be able to apply any brake.

With these linked systems you can not use the rear brake only , either just a front or front and back together, in gravel on a hard surface or in gravel period you need some back brake only or you might go down , you and I know this. Why did they think this was a great idea?/

Something I forgot to mention is the 83 calipers will not fit the earlier models. I really don't know why you would want to do this anyway. I had an 83 with linked brakes and my 1800 has them and they both work fine but I see no need for it. I think it was thought of for those who don't know how to use their brakes properly, like ABS.

Dave 0430 think im thinking too much. I am now going to pass on doing the rear to front as it seems more con than pro... Good points you all have brought up on this! Will switch to the silicone brake lines and rebuild the cylinders and call it good. Just wondering in the cumulative miles of all if there is a difference pro or con, with linked brakes. Yhe awsome truth in multiple view points!!! Hats off again to this forum!!

Picasso: Been down in gravel (not fun) Played in a drum and bugle show that night and left for the hospitol right after. My friends Mom Bless her soul picked rocks from the mess I made for hours. With shorts and tank top in the trash I think from the input Ill stick to not linked. It sounded good but alot of great feed back and a few reminders of my past . I think I'll opt for the control factor. Thanks for the input all!!
