I purchased a 2009 gl 1800 two weeks ago. Me and my wife went on our first ride the other day, and though we have owned three other goldwings, this is the first 1800. She likes the bike, but she complained the whole ride about the amount of wind she gets as a passenger. my question is, what is the best aftermarket windshield for passenger comfort. I have a friend who has a tulsa windshield, and I must admit I am not impressed with the way they look, and the first time I sat on his bike I hit my forhead on his windshield.

Have you raised the stock windshield all the way up?

That Tulsa seems to be popular. A couple of my friends have them. I also think that extra tall thing looks funky. They also tell me that they act like a sail in strong cross winds. But there is another solution. For those who are thinking about getting rid of the stock saddle and going with one of the fine custom ones.... Another GL1800 rider friend had his Heartco Pro Tour saddle made up with the passenger's cushion lowered almost 2 inches to accomodate is ladys height, making her head the same level as his. My lady is short... 5ft 2in. Her head is even with mine with the standard height cushion of the Pro Tour and she to does not have the wind issue. We both have stock windshields with Baker hand wings. I run the whidshield full up when riding double but have it down when solo. I like to look over the shield most of the time. Just another possible solution if one is replacing the saddle anyway.

I had the same problem and installed the windbender shield and dragonwings. No more wind for me and my very rare pasenger. I know biking is to be in the wind but I also want the option when I choose. Tony

I have had the same problem generally only at speeds greater than 75 MPH even if the passenger tucks close in behind they still feel the buffeting especially at 100+ I believe it is the disturbed air turbulence retuning and hitting the passenger from behind i think i have heard of a solution for this but haven't seen it or tried it myself. It is some kind of air dam behind the passenger similar to those you find in soft top cars, would be interested if anybody has seen or tried it.

F4+4, Baker hand wings, Baker upper and lower Air Wings resolved my wifes concerns. Nothing helps w/a cross-wind!

Well the Wings are about as aerodynamic as a 4 by 8 sheet of plywood in the wind or passing big trucks. A tall shield only makes that worse. But they will for sure stop the buffeting, if you can stand to sit behind it. It will raise the temperature a good 20 degrees in the summer too. There is no air flow behind the ones called extra tall. So they will stop the air. I like a short sport shield. I have cut down every stock shield on every bike I have ever owned. One of the very first things I do, get out the tape and jig saw and saw it off. A shorter shield stops the buffeting , evens out the air flow, but yes does allow much more air to flow, some do not like that, especially with a modular helmet as they are pretty noisy in a full stream of air. The one I run now I can adjust and it does well in cold weather and hot. From 9 inches tall to about 17 inches tall, I can adjust it for just about any condition and see over it at all times, so rain, splatter from a big truck or headlights shining through scratches at night , none of that is a concern. And all the jumping around and fighting the shield on the interstate around big trucks is sure a lot easier. You still have to kinda watch that draft sometimes, that wants to pull you in close to those big wheels, but all that buffeting stuff is gone. Not sure how it does with the passenger as Miss Sandy will try all day long to get rid of her helmet. She does not mind the wind. She loves it. Likes to try to hide the helmet too and not wear it. I have to send her back in the house to go get it just about every time, then all day long she tries to get away with not wearing it. Kit
