Hi, new to forum, if I get a Wing I'll be new to that too. :D

Had a Nighthawk 650 for years, but haven't ridden in about 10 years.
Always wanted a Goldwing, not fond of the looks of the 1500s,
(can't even see the motor) and can't afford an 1800.
Finally got the wife to agree it would make financial sense to ride a bike
to work, (and she wants to go riding too, I suspect)
and can afford up to around 2500.00 or so - can I get something
decent for that?
Also, I've never been on a Wing, I'm on the short side at 5'5", will I have
a problem with one?

    Thanks,
        Tookie

Wow. Not a good time of the year for deals. You may find one, but you also may need to do some work on it. Earliest year would be an 84, and I'm not sure you will find a decent one for $2500. I may be wrong, but JMHO.

I'm selling one on fleabay this week.  If you want to bid, I can ride it down there if you pay for my gas.

Dang Ram, why is it that just when I get motivated to finish mine , one of the members comes up with a great looking bike and reasonable????? That is one sharp looking Wing....Will you sell me that bike and provide room and board ???? cause if I bought it the Boss would put my junk on the curb.....:cheeky1::cheeky1:..and I would have to get over not being able to ride 12 months a year.....

OK Tookie here's what you do....Go look in your neighborhood find a 1100 or 1200 Wing to see if you can reach the ground, I can't help you there on that problem, but there are a lot of people on this forum that are vertically challenged as you are.....( my wife started that saying to keep me from calling her short)..... And so have lowered their Wings various ways, from putting on custom made seats with less foam in them, to actually lowering the Wing with special made lowering blocks.....Of cause I stand close to 6 ft...and have no problem even with Mark land floorboards with heel toe shifter.....This might be a major concern for you...But I can say this if you can reach the ground and do take one for a ride ....you won't buy nothing but a Wing......

But let me say this here and now....If you could buy Irqaqi Ram's 1200 and have him  to deliver it to you just for gas money...Brother if I didn't already have one I'd be on that Wing of his like stink on manure.....I have bought some items from other forum members and every thing I have bought has been Exactly as described and some times better than described.....

The old days of "well sonny its been setting in the garage fer 20 years, but if you want it its yours for free" those days are gone......and even if you did find one like that....you gonna spend more on it just to ride it than one running costs.....just my .02 cents worth.....

Claude

Well, it's at $2000 now, 3 days left, hasn't hit the reserve yet -
So let's see, Ram, want to end it now and take $2500?
And how are you getting back? Gas could get pricey if somebody
follows you here in a 1970 Cadillac

I bought 3 wings on ebay, plus my suburban. Never any problems.

You need to do you homework, that's all.

Guess I shouldn't have opened my mouth so quickly. Just found out my son sold his 86 Aspy for $2500. He lives in Austin and is relocating back to Wis. Didn't want to deal with it in the move. Wish I had known that. Had new tires, new stator, new battery, and in very good shape, cosmetically.

I don't think I'll find one immediately, but I'm not in a hurry,
and I'm sure one will show up

It took me well over a year to find my 85 gl1200 for $2650 on fleabay.
Then I had my 88 gl1500 fall in my lap and I stole that bike from the PO.
Just be patient and good things will come. The time also allows you to do more due dilligence research.

bump to top

On another note, some guys at work can't believe I'd rather have a Honda
than a Harley. "I'd rather ride than work on it" is my reply. ;)

Tookie,

I don't know what your looking for, but I looked at one up here in the Birmingham area last week while shopping for my dad a bike. The lady has a 1987 1200 Aspy. She is asking 4700.00.  It needs work. No rear brakes, front fork seal leaking, front breaks work....but........ sputters, but runs ok, seafoam may clear that up.......If she chrome is rusty in places and tires show dry rot on the side walls.  If you are looking for something to fix up and have a nice ride you may be able to wave 2200-2400 under her nose and she may bite.  Her hubby passed away last year and she has just now to decided to sell the bike. Advertised as garage kept, and "lots of extras"....the only thing I saw was the extra rust:D

With the work that one needs, by the time I am ready to ride I''ll
be over 3 grand into it, I can find one for close to 3Gs that's not so needy.
 Thanks

I have a 1997 GMC X-cab Diesel for sale right now,
may be interested in a trade of some type..........
Here it is

http://batonrouge.craigslist.org/car/768916919.html

This has been my daily driver/ tow rig for last five years.
Very dependable, averages around 18MPG empty, can do better
driving more conservatively, but not enough patience for that.
Got an 06 Tahoe to assume tow duties, GMC is good truck, just
not really needed anymore (When it sells, got the OK..... to........ buy
a..... Vette
