Just looking for some basic AM/FM tunes for my GL1200i

I have rear speakers, OEM speaker covers in the front.

Anyone in the area have an old stereo they replaced?

Try a Millenia. Theyre put out by JVC. I got their marina model and only gave $59. Google it. Darn good sounding high watt stereo with AUX,SD card slot.Very shallow depth mounting of around 4.5"-5". Heres a quick link.

Leroy, you didn't say if you were looking for factory or replacement.  Here's a link for Add-On brand radio bezel.  Available from most GW accessories dealers (CycleMax, WingStuff, etc.).  They also all sell replacement front speakers from J&M and the antenna and braket that bolts under the trunk.  For performance, these would likely be better than the factory unit.  Because of the limited depth in the mounting hole, a normal car radio will protrude out past the fairing.  The bexel makes up this extension.

By the way, don't loose that factory blank off plate.  Scarce as hen's teeth.

Hey nice bike!! I am looking for the cheapest I can get my hands on.

I like the looks of that JVC, but I guess I need to pull that factory plate off and see what I see for wiring. I am not very electronically... or mechanically inclined for that matter.

You'll need to bring power up from the accessory connection in the fuse block.  The front fender emblem is hooked there now but both shouldn't exceed the load of that fuse.  It's a easy chase thru once you pull the plastic tool tray out.

Thanks Andy. I may poke around tomorrow if it is too wet to cast boolits...

ps... I look at your key everyday. One day soon, it will be in the mail. Better yet, I should throw it on the wing and bring it over next time I go up to Howells.

Do you think I would need the bezel for the stereo listed about? My bike (In Andy's pictures.) looks different then the one in Oldtoys... I like that stereo.

Yeah, I think I will be best served buying the bezel first, then a stereo.

Rotorhead:

The bike came with that windsield.  A self-proclaimed expert claimed in was a Honda factory unit but I don't know.  I have seen some pictures of 1200s with the same wings but not very often.  The windshield was not yellowed at all and although it had some swirl marks was in very good condition.  The bike had nice low milage and it is possible that the windshield was original to the bike but no way to tell for sure.

Sorry - that's all I know.

Leroy:

Yeah, the extra key would be nice.  Would like the maintenace records if you could as well please.  If you saw my other post on insurance, I've practically paid for the registration just with the insurance savings.  Still too cool to use everyday and I prefer the wing anyway but I'm ready to give the little bike a workout soon.

I have to get up to Gray soon. I will swing by. I can see if Reynolds can give me a copy of all the records. I had each one done at the scheduled miles.

I am trying to get tunes now. I think my best bet is to buy that bezel and start with that.

Ok. I just ordered the bezel, and will get the speakers ordered later today and I think that just leaves a radio.

So, with the bezel a regular car stero will work?

I gave a standard car stereo to a friend with a 85' GL1200 and he mounted it right in the stereo slot. Only thing I could see was the stereo was too deep. That Millenia is only around 4" deep. Real shallow mounting.

I installed a Jensen cd player out of my truck in my 85 Aspy and it works fine. I just sold the bike but the new owner liked the way it was installed and worked.
Only pic I have.

Hello I have a Panisonic Car Stereo that I can part with its a $250.00 unit that I had in my truck and its just collecting dust now. It has a cd player in it and I will let it go for $50.00 if it will work for you. My brother had a 1200 and he put a car stereo in his and it worked out pretty well. Send me your e mail and I will send you a picture of it.
