This thread has gotten a lot more interest that I thought it would.  There are some amazing town names out there.

Here's another couple I live in that I had forgotten about:

Riddle, OR.
Port Hueneme, CA.  (pronounced WY-Knee-Me)

One in CA I traveled through and a friend of ours named their son after it.

Zzyzx, CA.  (prounounced zeyezicks)

Keep the names coming!!

Henry

Used to play a game with the kids when we were hauling the camper across the bald Canadian Prairies. It was called "What do you call a person who lives in ....?" and then we'd try to guess what you 'd call a person who lives in Regina, Moose Jaw, etc.

The kids favorite was UREN, Sask.

As far as the kids were concerned, anyone living there was a URENATOR.

My wife is from a speck on the map, a wide spot in the road really. About twenty miles north of Chillicothe Ohio. A place called Yellow Bud. There are about a hundred people there now. Used to be about twenty or so when we first met some thirty eight years ago. We live in Oregon Ohio now. A suburb of Toledo. My brother and his wife live near the town of Shickshinny Pennsylvania. I believe that’s how it’s spelled.

There's a band out there that has a song named Zzyzx rd. I wonder if they got the name from the same place. :?  I went to highschool in Waldron IN which is a small town (had a gas station and a single stop light/sign) a few miles outside of Shelbyville IN.

You know it was just a matter of time....The Fargo Forum, (newspaper) came out with an obit that read, ....(I'm no lying) "Fertile woman dies in Climax"

There is a town in Iowa named Manly. Saw a Headline in the wedding announcements:"Manly Man Marries Fertile Woman"

I live in Anderson, MO, a close town is Noel. Gets a lot of mail around Christmas. Speaking of Which, I once lived in Christmas, MI. It is on Lake Superior east of Marquette, MI. Someone mentioned Hell, MI. There is also a Paradise in that state. When we travel to see family up north we usually get gas just south of Kansas City in a town named Peculiar.

"****ing" is a small hamlet in Austria, Europe.  I kid you not, Google it in Google maps.  I understand that they are continually having to replace the outskirts town name sign after being stolen by tourists.

I went to High School in Anaconda, Mt. and I thought about some of the places I had visited there.  Couldn't find some of the names so I looked up some of the odder places at the Montana History web site.  Here is a list of some of the places I found with unusual names.  Their county is listed in parenthesis.

Bloody Dick Creek (Beaverhead) - creek named for an Englishman living there in the 1860s
Fishtrap (Deer Lodge) - named after Lee Marsh's fish traps on the creek; he sold fish to the mining camps
Flathead (Flathead) - lake, county & river, named after an Indian Tribe
Hellgate (Granite) - station, canyon & river named by French traders "porte de Renfer" ("gate of hell")
Sleeping Child Creek (Ravalli) - creek named by the Indians, said to have been Weeping Child originally
Spotted Robe (Glacier) - station formerly called Kilroy, a translated Indian name of a Blackfoot chief
Tin Cup Lake (Ravalli) - lake named by an early French-Canadian who lived here in early days
Two Dot (Wheatland) - town named after the ranch of H. J. ("Two Dot") Wilson, owner of the town site
