I saw three deer in the field behind the house this morning. I told the wife it was because Suzanne was sitting quiet and forlorn in the garage, and if only I could ride just a little then the deer alerts would frighten them away.

She looked at me kind of strange.

Later she said, "I didn't think we had deer alerts, and why do we want to frighten them away anyway?"

Accountants, such logical people.

You could put a fan blowing on the front of your bike while it's parked at home to keep the deer away.

My 2 brothers and I were at my yonger brother's house.  The younger one and I had on camo.  we stepped around behind his house and there were several deer out in the field.  They looked at us then went back to grazing.  My older brother came around the house wearing his orange hunting jacket.  The deer looked up and ran off.  So folks if you want your deer alerts to work, PAINT THEM ORANGE.

Don't let anyone fool you, deer DO see color.  They just don't see it the same as we do.  Bright orange reflects a lot of UV which the deer pick up extremely well.

That was in a show on the discovery channel once. I do not hunt so I had forgotten all about that. Orange it is, I am off to go paint mine!!  Kit

I didn't see any solar battery ones but here is an electric one made by Kuryakyn, so you know it must work!

Kuryakyn Electronic deer alert, Black -FREE SHIPPING Universal fit on 12-volt motorcycles. We recommend purchasing KUR-4044 Motorcycle Wiring Kit. Kuryakyn P-Clamps make installation a snap.

Here is the link to it: http://www.hondadirectlineofshadyside.com/stores/product.asp?pid=587&str=9&ID=120201013

Deer are the number one animal causing human deaths in this country! Old style “whistles” proved to be a marginally effective defense in preventing dangerous collisions with deer, but relied on vehicle speed and being kept free of debris for consistent operation. The effective range of this type of alert was also limited. The Hornet system is far more effective because of its electronic operation. Regardless of speed, it produces a sound pressure of 120 db, and under most circumstances is very resistant to contamination. (Regular inspection and cleaning is recommended however.) As with any accessory, its performance is only as good as its installation. Proper placement is essential for maximum performance. Detailed instructions make for an easy and effective installation. There is no substitute for driver awareness, but the Hornet is the best defense against a deer collision available to date. The Hornet includes various universal mounting brackets, basic hardware and a switch. A separate motorcycle wiring kit is available and includes a harness and switch specifically designed for use on a motorcycle; while not required, it will make the installation much neater. Our P-Clamps work great on many motorcycles to assist in mounting the Hornet to frames or engine guards. Universal fit on 12-volt motorcycles.

Wonder if they work on Jackalopes also? While I've never actually seen one, I'd hate not to be prepared and hit one by accident when I might could have prevented it.                             :?Keno
