It would be nice for the side bags to have a button to open like the trunk has and a remote start would be nice as well for the winter months.

As far as the remote start, It would be nice to have the key in the ignition before the bike would move for safety and theft protection.

Yes that would be nice. I would also like to see the truck open with the remote while the motor was running.

Sheesh! What's this world coming to? Motorcycles with remotes. Makes me wonder how I managed to survive most of my life driving cars without remotes.

As for opening the trunk with the remote whilst the engine is running, that's a bad thing. My Roadmonster (my first car with a remote) will open the back glass with the remote while the engine is running and sometimes that happens by accident. Can you imagine that happening on your Wing and having all of your underwear scatter on I-95?

Yeah that would be bad... BUT if they program it not to open when in gear that would be a good thing:goofygrin: or even use the speed sensor to detect if bike is moving.

I would like to see a factory security system using the same fob that's used to lock and unlock the trunk.

For some reason the GL1800 along with the Pan Eurpean (ST1300) are available in Europe with HISS (Honda's inbuilt imobiliser system). Don't know why it's not available in the States & other markets but then again that's the great mystery of the different markets for the GL1800 even thought as we all know their made in the one factory.

I find that key fob is more in the way then the use it serves. Just my .02

I totally agree with that, the remote should be incorporated in the key itself, the technology is there to keep it small.

The fob generally is use only to set the security system unless you have a security system that automatically arms itself, such as the factory security system on the new HArley Ultra Classics.

The other function of the fob is for locking and unlocking the trunk and bags as they are already doing on my '06 GL1800.

I do agree that carring the fob around with me is a bit of a hassle but something I was use to with my Harley Ultra Classic.

I agree with the making the key FOB into just the key, like some cage manufactures have done.

Scout Guy,

I don't think I could get by without my TV remote, my cell phone, garage door opener. Although, I think we were better off when those things did insist.

I found it saves my marriage, on a daily basis.  Each morning my wife rushes out the door, leaving me to lock the house door.  Simultaneously she is rushing to put her purse in the trunk as I am locking the door.  Thank goodness for the trunk remote on the bike, I wouldn't have a place to put my helmet otherwise, she'd chew my head off!  :D

I still haven't figured out the lock and unlock feature on the bike.  It unlocks the handles for the trunk and the saddlebags - temporarily, but what does it lock?

The remote only locks and unlocks the trunk. The button with the little picture of a Gold Wing on it is a quick release for the trunk lid.

The narrow Red button is a find it button in case you forgot where you parked it. Push it and the horn beeps.

The manual lock can also be used to lock and unlock the trunk lid with the key.

But it only seems to temporarily lock and unlock the trunk...  true?

I guess you could consider it being temporarily locked. If you lock it with the remote or with the key, nobody else can open the trunk with the manual latches.

If you locked the trunk with the remote before going to bed, it should still be lock the next morning.

I had a bit of a problem figuring mine out when I first got my '06 1800. I would unlock the trunk with the remote and I would return to the truck to get something out of it and it would be lock. I would have to use the remote or the key to unlock it again.

Would it be possible to get a re-programable remote with built in key , such as for a Honda Civic I guess, and have the key cut to match the Goldwing one?

Hi everyone.  This is mu first post.  I would agree that it would be great if the remote opened the side bags also.  Has anyone had the latch malfunction?
