In searching the subjects in this forum I noticed that no-one has requested that ABS be included as standard or at least available as the base option as it was from '01 thru '05. Starting in '06 in order to get ABS brakes Honda forces one to purchase heated grips and seats (Gerbing heated clothing will keep you warmer for less money) and the Navi system. Not only is this Navi unit over twice as expensive as the portable Garmin units it has been dumbed-down so that it will not give you your true ground speed. (Obviously Honda doesn't want to call attention to the fact that their speedometer reads 5 to 6 mph high when indicating 70mph.)
I have a '01 GL1800A that now has 330k miles on the odometer. I feel it is the best bike available but I refuse to buy $2500 of options that I do not want in order to get ABS brakes. Rather than buy an '06 Wing with ABS I bought a FJR1300 with ABS for approx. $10k dollars less. I have talked to many other '01 to '05 Wing owners who feel the same way about the current option packaging and they refuse to buy another Wing until ABS is the base option or standard. I also find it odd that Honda claims to be concerned with rider safety only to force $2500 of non-safety related options on buyers before ABS can be purchased.

I agree. ABS should be standard equipment on the wing anyway. A lot of other bikes now have it standard, why not the wing? I think Honda is more worried with shareholders than safety.

Me three!!! I've practiced and practiced panic stops from as high as 60 mph in the parking lot. Throw one rather large car into the equation and possible road debri and all that practice meant nothing.
I just don't like any of the sport tourers I've sat on better than the ChickenWing so far.

I bought a base model Gold Wing because I didn't want to pay $2000 for their navigation system. I would much prefer to have an a la carte option system available. I wanted ABS and the "comfort"options, but could not justify the extra cost.
