The 1800 has always turned too many rpm at highway speeds. I'm always subconsciously wanting to shift one more time. The engine seems to have more than enough torque to allow another 500 rpm drop with one more gear. It would probably increase fuel mileage as well. Anybody else feel that way?
It also seems time to develop an intercom system that requires no cords.

I'm hoping that Honda of America is reading the posts. In lieu of a big redesign of the bodywork, they could throw us the six-speed tranny and wireless intercoms. Those two items could be very good for sales for at least one more year before a redisn to the body. Anybody else agree???

| I would'nt mind the extra gear, but i want a gear indicator aswell, now the cordless intercom would be a big bonus, and should be easy enough now with Bluetooth technology....

Congratulations on purchasing your Goldwing. You will love it. I'm hoping that Honda will see and hear our pleas for a sixth gear. And after several years of ownership, I KNOW owners would appreciate a wireless intercom. What about it, Honda? Are you listening? Last edited on Sat Jul 26th, 2008 06:09 pm by Goldwing48

| I would really like a 6th gear and wireless intercom. I like the idea so much, that I would trade-in my 2007 wing and buy the new model.

I researched a bluetooth wireless headset. I was told by a knowledgable source that bluetooth will not provide the fidelity which historically has make the GW's sound system superior to the competition. BLuetooth is fine for voice comm like intercom and cellphones but inferior for music. (I'd be happy to be wrong on this if someone out there knows more than I do or if I have wrong information.)
I'll stay with the wire if thats what needed to keep the superior sound quality.

| Not only a six speed tranny but a gear indicator like my 1200 had.

Not true. There is a Bluetooth mode in the 1.2 standard called A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) that will transmit very high quality audio (in stereo) to a headset. My Treo 755P cellphone connects to my Plantronics Bluetooth stereo headset using A2DP, and when I play music from the Treo to the headset, the quality is indistinguishable from a wired headset.

Now be real..
Most of us if we had a sixth gear, would still run the rev's up to the same point and just travel down the interstate faster.

If anyone has some knowledge, here is a homemade solution that started from a ham radio operator.

Bought by 2008 1800 in June. I would love to see a sixth gear, thinking that the lower rev's would lead to increasede fuel mileage. Running in OD at about 45MPH the fuel mileage goes way up. Bluetooth intercoms and audio would be a BIG plus along with the gear indicator suggested by tanygaer.
Just MHO.
I'd trade my 08 in a heartbeat but I'd also go for the heated seats and handgrips.

My big american v-8 turns around 2000 at 70mph, and it doesn't have near the power to weight ratio that the goldwing has. Either lower the OD ratio or add a 6th gear please!
Thanks

I almost bought the HD Ultra Classic because of the 6 speed tranny. Bought the Wing, but at times I wonder if I made the right decision.
Both have their advantages, but you would think that Honda would get on the ball in some of the areas where they are behind their competition.
