You're generalizing, a lot of us don't like much chrome.

Maybe it's for the same reason a certain Texan is trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes?

Know its new taste, and be loyal, you'll know when, to change that oil.
Taste testing as the miles flow, souring as that acid grows.
And don't flirt with dirt or darkened oil, all the faster your engine will spoil.
If that soured oil turns to paste, new motors cost plenty, what a waste.

The chrome part is easy exavid,  We like chrome, and the older goldwings have it, the way I see it, If I rebuild the 82, it's new to, It may cost more to rebuild it, but I get what I want that way............... Not that I wont change my mind someday and get a 1500, That's a very good possibility:cool:

From mini-V8 to one cylinder simple bike.

Did someone say they wanted a bike that was minimal?

Here's a couple...  K.I.S.S. bikes

Actually it is more like 800 watts at 60 amps.  Where as the GL1800 produces 1.2 KW. or appox 1000 watts at 13 volts or about 77 amps.

Having rode both bikes, there are some things with  the BMW that are what I would call user friendly.  Such as the electric windshield and stand.

The rock hard seat is not user friendly, go take a 300 mile ride on a BMW and then come talk to me.

As for power and instant response, well, nothing compares to the 1800.

Not trying to run the BMW down, it is a neat bike for sure, but it cannot even begin to compare with the performance and power of the 1800.  I suppose one would think it quite the thing, if one had never ridden an 1800, but once you have, no one needs to tell you the difference.

mmmmmmm..... maybe we should go back to bikes that only did 200 miles before needing some kind of tinkering to do another 200. Maybe we should take all the engineering off the gl1800 and make them as good as a Harley for 400 miles in a day travelling through europe at 90 miles an hour!!!

Maybe we should all put spiky grass in our helmets because they are getting too comfortable also!

And go back to candles for headlights and have a pocket full of sand to throw on our belt drives if we want to go up hill!!

LOL

The GL1800 is the best bike on the road.... bring on the gl2000 with as much electronics as Honda can think of.

It's kind of like getting a tattoo. Some people just can't stop with one. It also has a lot to do with growing up in the mid-late 50's and early 60's in the USA when Detroit could'nt put enough chrome on their cars. We can't figure out why Brits like warm beer either:alco:!

Wow !!  I couldn't agree more. I may be wrong but I seriously doubt the overwhelming majority of GW owners do not buy one for crazy amounts of power. For at LEAST 15 years I've been asking myself, 'where is the ceiling on power ? '

Again, not only is it not NEEDED, I doubt many would mind less power traded for comfort and, more so, affordability.

A complicated motorcycle ?  You bet !!!

Feetup, the reason honda went to 1800 was because of the new in 99 BMWK1200LT.it took top honors for touring that year.completely redesigned from 98.so.to keep up with BMW honda redesigned the wing from its 00 model.in 01 the 1800 wing took top honors for touring.its either keep up or loose $$$$$.try an 1800 once.then ride youre 1200.
