| I would think it would be beneficial to have some sort of parking brake (other than leaving the bike in gear). Living in mountainous terrain, often level parking spots are rare. | maybe instead of a parking brake as previously suggested ,,How about a lock out side stand ?When the side stand is on you need to hit a button to release it ,,that way the bike will not fall over if it moves slightly forward ,,simple solonoid type device would do the job ..Ciaran

I wish the side stands were much more stable. I put mine in reverse when parked, but this shouldn't be necessary.

| The 1800 are worse than the 1500 ,because they are lighter ,they don't dig into the ground as much ,so it is very easy for them to roll off the stand ,,First day I had the 1800 I parked in the exact spot where I always parked my 1500 ,,I got of the bike and it rolled forward off the stand ,much to my embarassment.....Ciaran

| In which case, future Wings could definately benifit from improvement either with lock out stand or, at least an improved stand.

| Parking brake would be good. Some of the big scooter type bikes already have this.

| The 1500 has a parking brake, just pull up the reverse lever, doesn't the 1800 work like that?

| Yes ,,except it is a button ,,But it is not recommended ,,as it can cause the reverse pin to break and it would end up costing a lot of money to repair ,,I have never heard of it doing any damage yet ,,but I am sure someone will come along and tell us it happened to them ...cheers axe oops wexman

Good idea, My st1100 had one fitted, I think it came from a quad bike. when you pulled the hand bake lever in you engage the catch, on pulling he lever back in the catch springs back off. Worked well for me.

| I think with that new avatar of his he's trying to tell us he's really a laid back kind of guy and that the spelling and the ribbing doesn't really bother him.

| You can buy a braking system where you apply the brakes and then set this device and it holds the hydraulic pressure, all wheels lock. The system is typical to small and medium trucks with hydraulics acting on the brakes not air pressure. I cannot remember the trade name, but if you contact any of the truck dealers in your area they should be able to help. The system is attached to the dash area and has a lever that attaches to a hydraulic line and when you brake and hold the foot pedal down the lever is flipped and then you release the brake.

I remember driving trucks with that type of brake, if I remember correctly it was called a "micro-brake".
I didn't think of that method but it will be something I'm going to check.

You know I believe if I'm correct, Honda once made a bike with a factory parking brake on it!!! It was the HONDAMATIC CB 750!!!!!!! Only made for a few years I recall. 1976 and 1977

Yep, the Hondamatic 400s had a parking brake as well. One of those was my first bike.

In this respect maybe Honda could take a lesson from Harley. The Harley I drove had a notch that the side stand locked into when the bike was on the side stand. It was extremely simple and could be easily adapted. When you stood the bike up, the stand dropped out of the notch and could easily be put up.

Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best.... and this has got to be a good solution
