SabreJoe wrote: Thats a very good video Steve, and with the picture page covers about everything. How much longer did it take to change the belts when you are making a video and photos? I can usually change GL1200/1100 belts in about 90 minutes, from start to finish. Taking video and photos just about doubles that to three hours. That's the easy part. Preparing the photos and article takes about three hours and the video editing would take another two-three hours, but Dylan took care of the video and all I had to do was add the captions. I suppose it's really a days work just doing the video, photos and tutorial page. Like I mentioned, actually changing the belts is the easy part.

That's a lot of work just to post a video and tut page. The results are first-rate, but its a whole lot of work for no return.

Youtube is full of videos made by people just trying to help others with similar interests. This site is also full of people like that, it doesn't take long to figure that out. Here's a question for Steve. Someone on the NGW forum commented about the point at 9.30 in the video when the pulley sprung off-time when you removed the old timing belt. Did you know that was going to happen, or would you have locked the pulley beforehand if you had suspected it would happen?

I've changed a lot of GL1200 timing belts and when a pulley jumped off the mark, it has always been the one on the right side. This time I had the camcorder ready for it, and it was nice to get it on video to show how easily the pulley can move and possibly catch you off-guard.

It's not a biggie if the pulley moves, once you have the pulley marked or made a note of the correct marks before you pulled the belts off.

I see they put a youtube linky in the forums menu. It links to the tutorial videos, makes them easier to find.

Thanks for the great video Steve. I bought a 1984 GL1200 Aspencade this year and since I don't know the age of the timing belts, I thought I should replace them as a winter project. This video really increases my comfort level. Much appreciated.

Thanks, just bought a 87 Aspencade and will change the belts before riding it. It is awesome to be guided by an expert all the way front start to finish. Will save me a bunch.
