i believe that i have seen some 1500 SE's with the lower white turning indicators permanently on. Mine come on when i indicate left or right. I believe i have seen a solution to changing the wiring somewhere but cant find it. Can any wiz kid or other kind biker help??? steveroy

You can do this by bypassing the relays in under the lower fairing panels. I had this done with mine but I can't remember which wires were reconnected where. If I'm not mistaken, there is a thread about this very thing on the forum already.

I just found it and posted the answere there, so I may as well post it here also; "It's not too hard to do. First you need to remove the relay or bypass it. On the right side, connect the light blue/white wire from the relay side to the green wire of the cornering light (this is the earth/ground). Then take the red/blue wire from the cornering light and connect it to the brown/white wire at the headlight. On the left side it's orange/white on relay side to green on cornering light and the red/yellow wire from the cornering light to the brown/white wire at the headlight. Altrenatively instead of connecting the power wire to the headlight, you can conect them to the accessory terminal on the fusebox. "

Thanks Guys for your answers i am not great with electrics so next week i will be back with " how do you replace a burt ot wiring loom on a Goldwing. I will print off your instructions and give it a try. Do i need to down reat the bulbs, i saw a thread about the plastic bulb housing burning out on some bikes, i dont know if it was these? Steveroy

Good point. The later 98-2000 models have the lower lights on all the time and they do burn out the holders as well.

On my '99 I installed these from scratch because the Aspencade didn't come with them. I used Big Bike Parts / Show Chrome (don't get me started on their lack of quality or poor instructions) Anyway, I had mine on for about 3 months... no heat problem or deforming of the plastic, just burnt out bulbs. They are 18watt by the way. Now they are on a switch and I use them sparingly. This winter I will swap out the bulb holder pigtail and switch to a bulb that will last longer. But for now I must ride until the rains come, which will be soon... Mike C

If you put a one or two ohm resistor in series with the bulb lead it will dim the bulbs slightly but probably extend the life and reduce the heat developed. Shouldn't make it all that less visible.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind! One other reason I am going to change the socket/pigtail is to get a more standard auto bulb... my current bulb costs $6 each to replace and a PIA to do so. I think an automotive bulb will be down around 2 for a $1.19 and they'll last longer so less PIA to change.

Has anyone thought about LED bulbs, do they take less current, run cooler and therefore not drain the battery so much? By the way i have a solar panel on my garage wall to keep my bike battery charged its brilliant.

I think the LED bulb is a good idea if, like me, you just want the cagers to see you. I don't know if they would actually project the light on the ground near the bike like the real bulbs do. Remember these began by design to be corning lights, they just light up the ground near the bike, they don't shoot way out forward like some kind of fog light or highway lights. Mike C

Hi all, i just thought i would put a point across here, i wired my fairing lights to be on when the lights were on, i was amazed at the amount of idiot drivers who took one look at the orange light on the fairing as an indicator and asumed i was turning left. This happened more in the day than at night, the light is continually on, but to an idiot it registers a turn.... scary, i have now put them back to blink with the main indicators.

I've always done the same as you with US import bikes and for the same reasons.

I've read that bypassing the relay allow the cornering lights to become running lights will put additional stress on the #3 relay causing it to go out prematurely. Anyone run into this? Welcome  to start, I wired mine to stay on for about a year before 7 changed them to LED's, never had any problem.

Where did you get the LED's? Do you have a part number#?

Instead of cutting wires...I made a harness to do the same thing. Here is a simple diagram. I have a relayed Auxiliary fuse block that is only powered up when the key is on. i hooked my lights up to a switch so i can turn them off if i want to, but they are usually on all the time. i have never had a problem. i do feel safer with them on.

I have a 2000SE where they are on all the time. They are only 18W each so dont project a lot of light, but do make you much more visable. The problem is though if you want to run fog lights or real driving lights you cannot because its only legal here to run 4 headlights max.
