I tried this and it works great. Find an empty spray bottle and remove the pump (I used a pump head from a liquid hand soap dispenser) attach a piece of vacum tubing to the straw on the pump or nozzle, then connect the tubing to the bleeder nipple. Loosen the bleeder nut and pump slowly till you get clear fluid (topping up the reservoir as you go) and no more air bubbles. Lock the bleeder nut, and your good to go. Replaces the otherwise expensive store bought vacum pump at a fraction of the cost. Quick, cheap and effective. You can also use it to drain your master cylinder reservoir, instead of pumping cruddy fluid through your system. Works on clutch and brake systems.

I was going to post a thread asking the best way to do this. I spent about an hour trying to bleed my clutch and could not get all of the air out. Saw this post and after fifteen minutes all the air is out. Great tip! Last edited on Tue Mar 3rd, 2009 06:12 pm by tallyho |

Super idea I have the expensive vacume pump, so I never had to try and think of another way. But bi goly, I'll pass this idea on to some friends that always borrow my pump.

UPDATE: Use a clear type tubing to better see the air bubbles as they pass. When you no longer see bubbles, your done.

Hey, great idea! I tried one of those $5.00 squeeze bottle bleeders. Didn't work for s***. But this sure ought to! That's why I love this forum. One question real quick though Busdriver, does the brake fluid play havoc with the plastic parts of the pump? Just wondering if you had to get a new pump for each use or if you can use one for several times.
