What about taking your triple tree to the machinist, and have him cut a 6 degree steeper angle, or maybe re-bush (new bushings) the fork tube holes on the triple tree at the angle you want.

Just a Thought

i thought about cutting them myself and pushing the front wheel out some with them loose in the top tree. never heard of anybody doing it but there's always the first time.
nows the time i have it stripped down for the paint job. that was a 2 hr job. should have left it silver.
i also see i'll have to build a shock on the front i have one leaking, can't believe with just 31000 miles it needs a shock build.

since i'm doing this on junk yard budget i may try and cut the tree myself.  if i mess it up there are plenty out there for cheap.

At least yours has the fork brace, Mine was missing, when I bought my GL1500

When I bought & rode my 88' Gl1500 Home both front shocks were leakers, The brakes were so soaked with fork oil the front brakes wouldn't stop.

It was scary to ride.

The Air filter was so plugged up this caused it to run rich & smelled strong of gas fumes the bike had no power at all.

The brake fluid & clutch fluid were black with a  lot of silt in the resevoirs, the bike needed a lot of Maintenance.

31K is not a lot, but 22 years is, my GL1500 has 74k, but still smooth and purr's like a kitten after all the maintenance I have done to it, it runs real nice.

Now I have  completely gone through it. It runs nice for a bike that cost me $3K on craigslist.

Under right bag, helps when I read whole post. Could be cell phone charge jack which would probably have power to it.

I would take out a meter see if it has power to it.

This will tell you if it is powering some thing or just providing feedback.

It is hard to tell what location of the bike you are at by the picture.

A little smoke on start up is fine, they all do it.

Partly because you choked it, it is running rich and partly 22 year old valve seals leak a little, as long as it stops after a couple of minutes it is normal.

Just started my GL1500 this weekend, after winter finally warmed enough to take out of weatherization. It fired right up, I put it back on Insurance, so I am ready to ride it
again. If only it would stop raining.

I keep maintenance spread sheets for all my vehicles.

I was thinking last night, when I should have been sleeping, The Triple tree mode.

What about taking the lower tree, cutting it loose from your bearing stem making a triangular plate that is longer than original to move the lower tree out, then weld new plate to bearing stem and lower tree.

Since you need to rebuild your forks anyway, they would be lighter one you have them apart, and just use the upper tube for alignment.

Then you would need  to cut your top tree off to put another triangle plate (plate may need to have an angle put in it), once you get the right angle, and alignment.

A little work, but less than $600.00.

Making a jig, for production would be awesome if you have the time.

It could work.

Just my 2 cents

The top of the tree is cast Alum. Don't try to bend.
If anything, bent the forks just below the tree, won't take that much.
Use a manul bender not Midis!

NO< NO DO NOT BEND BELOW BOTTOM TREE that will allow coil binding in internal springs and once its compressed it cant fully rebound with that restriction it will cause  :hovering::hovering:

I agree with Lightin, Do not bend the fork tubes, it will ruin crush the front fork tubes and damage your springs.

I thought the stock triple trees on a GL1500 were steel, (GL1800 are Alum.) The Stem is steel, If the trees are Alum. you can still get some 1/4" flat steel make a wide triangle plate, either weld it to the steel tree, or if Alum. Bolt it, maybe helicoil the tree holes for added strength,  to the tree, but then weld the small side of the triangle to the Stem.

That triangle steel can be bent, or if you know some who has a brake to bend it for you.

It would not need much, maybe bolt & weld to get the right angle

The Main thing is to have something that is Safe!

Having a front end come apart at 75mph cannot be much fun.

i think i figured out a cheap easy steer. i'm going to cut the neck loose and kick it out at the bottom and weld it back up. down this far should be an easy do.

That's what I was just thinking.
Old HD trick in the old days making choppers.
Setup some keen of jig so the fork will be straight as to bend then out.
You may need 2" fork ext. as it will also drop the front when you rack it.
Easy to but in later, screw on the 2" ext., loosen forks, move forks down & tighten.
So you can do it later if needed.

Sounds like a good Idea, if you can get the right angle, and get it back straight.

That is a much better idea, and when it is welded back at least you can rest assure it wont come apart while going down the road.

Yes your engine will be lower to the ground, you may bottom out going over speed bumps, R.R. tracks. etc.

I like that much better.
