My low fuel light does come on for a few seconds when I first start, and then goes out like normal, but does not come on when gas gets low.  I have looked on line for a sensor but have not found one.  Also when I take off I hear a clunk  like a "U" joint or something, any ideas what to do about fixing either or both my problems.

Thanks

This is the low fuel thermistor part no.  The dealer will try to sell you the whole pump assy, if you go in and ask for the low fuel fix.
37810 - MB4 - 008   from a  v65 Magna is supposed to work, also.  I think they're the same thing.
Try this page for a guide, but it's more aimed at pump replacement.
http://www.berrysweb.com/Documents/GL1500_FuelPump.pdf

or

http://www.berrysweb.com/1500_fuel_pump.htm

The clunk - -what's the year and model, and what's the mileage?  All this info is important.  Could be splines and wheel hub that have never been taken care of; IE: no 60% moly applied at 20k miles intervals, or a bad hub in the cushion area.  That stuff rarely gets serviced, when tire is off.
   Real shame, too

No biggie to change out the low fuel warning sensor

Remove the seat and pull apart the 3 quick disconnects and the three nuts and remove the fuel pump. You'll have to angle it out and then remove a breather hose and a couple of screws that hold on the actual sensor.

The part number in red is for a 92 Aspy, but I imagine they are all the same. Think I paid $35 for it from Cheap Cycle Parts, winter of 08.

Prevent/Repair those cracked 1500 trunk lids by installing a set of Rudy's Lid Reinforcement Panels to the underside of your trunk lid.

You can repair the low fuel warning light for a couple of bucks with a thermister from Mouser Electronics, Basic soldering skills will get the job done. Disconnect the battery, remove the seat, pull the unit from the tank and take the "can" apart that the thermister is in. If you haven't done it before it may take you about 1 hour to do the job. Usually some of the members here will have an extra one.

If only I knew which one.  I forgot. Was it 1000 ohm?, or 100 ohm?  I'm pretty sure it was it was negative coefficient, tho.   A cpl bucks, vs Honda's outrageous price.

Should be 1Kohm   like the Mouser p/n: 527-2004-1k  (clicky) :readit:

I've ordered 2 of the thermisters, is it inside the little sensor can inside the tank, or am I looking in the wrong place. I took the unit out of the tank just to see what I was looking for and did not see anything that looked like a resistor. If I can find it and get to it I can fix it.

Thanks for all the help so far.

I still don't know exactly where the thermister is. Can someone tell me where to look?

You're spot-on -- it's in the "Little sensor can" in the tank (on the pump assy you pulled to look at). :waving:

Lots of these blow when folks fuel up with the key on (especially if the low fuel light's on) due to thermal shock of the part.

Inside the protective 'can' that you removed from the fuel pump. Those two leads will lead you right to it.

It's been mentioned elsewhere, that the Magna part is less expensive, but I haven't priced them out at my local Honda shop yet.....papasmurf'

Someone was looking so here's a bump to the top.

I just replaced the thermistor yesterday in my 1500. One hour job, pretty easy.

Thanks to all who posted info above. The Mouser part above cost me $0.93 and about $8 for shipping.

So I guess it is supposed to be a Negative Temperature Coefficient device?

I ran out of gas yesterday due to the low fuel light not coming on.  If you still have the thermistor I'll buy it....-Rich
