I had to jump my '99 wing after it sat for about a month due to a recent surgery. Now when I start it up after I trickled the battery back to level, I have no lights... of any kind! No reverse, no headlights, no tail-lights, no dash lights, nothing. The bike runs and starts fine and I do have a neutral light but it will not back up nor will any of the lights come on. I have checked the left-side fuses and the 30 amp on the right side and all look to be in correct operation. Any ideas what I should look at next? I feel sure it is either a fuse that I'm overlooking somewhere or it's something simple. Help!!!

Hi nicky and welome to the forum in behind the dogbone fuse holder there is another 30amp fuse may have a rubber cover over it by any chance did you connect the jumper to the battery the wrong way round

Hi everyone! I wanted to thank you all for your imput on my problem, I did finally find it from some advice on here. It was the 55 amp solid fuse that fits in front of the 30 amp at the dogbone holder. It had burned in half and I didn't spot it. I replaced it and everything came back on the way it was supposed to. Again, thank you all for your imput and Steve, thank you for having a forum that we can go to without having to take our bikes to the shop for an arm and a leg!

And another great part of this thread is the fact that you reported back with your fix.

Just a note from my recent experience with a blown dog bone. It just blew one day. I found a spacer missing on the battery pos. lug. It had arced just enough to draw enough amps to fry the dogbone. Funny thing is, just yesterday, I found the same spacer missing on the NEG. post! My battery died while out for a fillup. After running all the charging system tests, I found out the battery is just starting to get weak, and the lack of those spacers caused an undecharged condition, even though the alternator was putting out fine at 2000 RPM. My point is, to check WHY the dogbone fuse blew. Could be a substantial short or resistance some where. jimsjinx Last edited on Sun Nov 22nd, 2009 11:35 pm by jimsjinx ____________________ "We are put here, to take care of each other" |

Jimsjinx, I probably should have put in my reply that when I was trying to jump the bike, the negative ground popped off and hit the bike causing an arc. I didn't pay attention to it and thats probably why it took so long to find the problem. But I do thank you for the advise as I will make sure to check that the spacers are as they are supposed to be.
