My '75 Wing painted Black and my home made side car with my 2 year old daughter (Brittanya) right at home in it. Gee she is 30 now...God, I'm old! I had never seen a real sidecar, so did it all from just my ideas.
It rode good, but pulled to the right when I accellerated and pulled to the left when I braked.
All side cars do that, I found out later. No one had a side car for the first year Wing, so I guessed at hook up points and toe-in so it would drive straight at 65 MPH, etc. It was made out of 3/4" Ply with aluminum covering. The frame was 1 inch square tubing and the shock was from a 750. I carried 100 lbs of chain in the trunk to keep it on the ground in right turns and the top would retract for a convertable. It was fun, but the worst part was the wind it forced into my face.

That chair looks pretty neat for a first time DIY job, but I might question the sense of the passengers seat on the bike, that looks kind of "different"!!
Also, did you have front braking, only the angle of the brake master cylinder looks a bit accute!!?

Hi and thanks for that.
The seat formed up against a metal sissy bar. The seat was all one piece with a built in sissybar too. The handlebars were highrise and yes the angle of the Master cylinder was definitly accute, but still worked fine. When my daughter was born, the seatbelt in the hack held her babyseat in place. She rode in it often, even at 6 months old in the car seat and usually slept as soon as we got going. The whole inside of the car was lined with red shag carpet too. The windshield on the bike was a one piece bolt-on as wide as a fairing. I experimented with plastic wings like we have now adays to stop the wind from the side car but was never very successful at keeping the wind off of me. Now wind wings are common too.
Have you ever seen those articulated sidecars? They lean with the bike, kinda like the "ghost wheels" as shown on the Safety Features Inc website.

Good luck with the cold and the ride. I am proud of you to go on the bike. Now you sound like a Harley guy! Ha ha...Shut my mouth!

The leaning sidecar did make an appearance over here although I have never seen one in the flesh. I believe they were expected to be popular with learner riderswho could ride a higher cc bike than the 125 cc that was introduced a few years ago. However I suspect that most folks decided just to make the effort and pass their test instead. No street cred in having a little said car on your big crotch rocket!!

Found a link on the articulated side cars. They were called Equalean.

What do you think about the ghost wheels in the Safety features link above in my previous post. Do you know anyone who did THAT?
