The first picture was
taken in August ' 96 in Lough Quay forest park. This was my previous GL1500, a
1989 model which I bought in England from it's first owner, with only 22,000
miles on it, and the second picture shows the same bike two months later, back
on the road after an idiot cager drifted into my lane on the M25 in England
while using his mobile 'phone. He didn't stop either, but the cops got him later
and honour was restored (eventually) with a decent settlement...
...and this was my first Goldwing, a 1982 GL1100 which was reckoned to be the
nicest example in Ireland, with not a scratch or blemish on the paintwork. This
photo was taken in late 1994, when the machine was 12 years old! Just goes to
show how keeping a bike in a garage makes all the difference to the overall
condition and when the time came to sell it there were plenty of offers. Mind
you, I'm sorry I let it go.
This
shot was sent in by Andy Murray, from Ashbourne. It was taken during a visit to
Ireland in 1999 by the Chernobyl children, who Andy brought for
a spin on his SE. Andy told me that the expressions of delight on the kids faces
was a real tonic. If anyone is interested in getting involved in next years
event, let me know.
Another Treffen '
95 shot. This trike conversion was a really nice job. Close inspection showed
really good panel fit and finish.
Mick Wilson and
myself caught without helmets again at the ' 98 British Treffen.
Paul Madden
entering the site of the Belgian Treffen, 1999. Apparently this was one of the
few times that it wasn' t pouring with rain.
Some shots with Pat
Barnes, taken at the ' 97 Swiss Treffen.
Gerard Delaney,
from Dublin, posing with his 1992 Aspencade.
Some shots from the '
97 French Treffen. The late Pat Barnes is seen here enjoying some holiday
moments.
The
owners of these 1500's were German. This type of paintwork seems to be very
popular with German wingers and it involves a lot of work, the plastics have to
be sanded smooth before painting. The owner of the bike pictured in the middle
told me that it cost DM 7000. Work that out! That picture was taken by me at the
' 96 Irish Treffen and the other two at the ' 98 British Treffen.
