Steve, I'm new to the "Wing World" and just purchased a "brand new" 2008 Goldwing Audio/Comfort/Navi/ABS. It has the heated seats. My question to youis regarding the installtion of the Utopia backrest which I have ordered. Is there anything I should be REALLY worried about doing the install on the heated seat?

Hodgie, Steve is certainly the expert and the one to ask but I just installed the Utopia on my 2008 with heated seats with no problem at all. Steve's video coupled with the provided instructions and you will do just fine. Theknife plunge was a bit more difficult than I expected both moraly and physical.

I felt like I needed too go to confesion afterwords...

However the end resultis a great product that will provide you with many miles of comfort. Enjoy and welcome to the fourm!

Thanks for the reply. So where does Honda run the wires for the heated portion of the driver & passenger seat area? That was my concern. I do not want to cut into them.

When you pull the seat off, look underside and the base nylon seat shell will be semi-transparent and you will see wirerouting, just be careful and avoid contact with these wires.This information and provided installationinstructions will makea lot more sensewhen youactually examine the seat.This really is nothing to worry about and you will do just fine. Approximately 45 min. and you will be on the road again.

I am looking at one of these backrests for my GL1500 and those instructions will help me make the cut.

I fitted a Utopia to a GL1800 with a heated saddle today. Very little difference to the non-heated models but I decided to do a video and pictures again. I'll upload the pictures later on, here is the video on Youtube;

I don't have a GL1800 but that's a good write up and video for any of us thinking about a utopia.

That's a much better video Steve. The captions instead of talking are a nice touch, nobody can say they can't understand your accent now!
I posted the link on the 1800 riders board, the utopia fitting question gets asked often there.
