New vintage wing owner again!

Finally graduated our youngest son from highschool and the wife said its time to find another touring bike for US!
We looked far and wide for something to fit all our needs and a few wants. Amazingly I came across a 81 Interstate that was very well maintained by by an older couple who are moving to AZ in the fall and will not be riding any longer. The best part is it came with a California Sidecar & HJC helmets w/intercom mics as well!
The best part is it was only 10 blocks away from my work and within 2 days we were on the road again!
We rode 1 night with the sidecar and decided it would be better to get used to the bike again first. We just got back from an 800 mile trip to KS with the bike to see our new twin grandbabies! Grandbabies are good grandparents are tired and the bike is home in 1 piece!
Great to be back on the road again! My wife allready has a ride planned for next weekend! this is a good sign!
We do have one complaint about the bike, it only got about 27-30 MPG.
In the past I thought my other bikes got better than that, closer to 45-50 MPG. Does anyone have some thoughts about what way to go. I am an expeirenced automotive tech and have built alot of bikes over the years, but have been away from the big stuff for awhile.
Thanks for any advice anyone may have so I can keep the wife excited about using the bike for raod trips this summer!

hello and welcome . i think you can get a bit more mpg . my 1100 was a steady 40mpg . like autos a good air filter (clean) is a great help in mpg as well as power. new plugs never hurt either . has the bike been sitting for a spell ? many of us find a dosage or 2 of " Sea Foam " in the gas will help clear out small blocakages . the final thing that comes to mind would be to syncronize the carbs ,so they are all working in unision .
i hope your soon back to higher milage and enjoying the miles flow past . enjoy the forum and visit often.

one kast thought , your mpg sounds about right for when runnung the side car .
