New Guy from CO, New Project, First Project

Well it's pretty simple. New to the crew, new to bike building, new to Goldwings, not new to wrenching. Not my first bike, but definitely will be my most involved project thus far.

Former Marine and (medically) retired firefighter. I manage a firearms forum, hunt, fish, reload, etc. Outdoorsy stuff. Had someone offer me a basket case of a 1990 GL1500, with a clean title, for $500. I know right? It even came with a set of never seen the rim dunlop elites, and a NIB hitch/draw bar and cargo carrier. The free stuff basically paid for the bike. It's almost completely disassembled now since I'm going to need to do some body work and torture myself trying to decide on paint.

I appreciate the welcome(s). I'll probably do some lurking unless I see something I can jump in on. Tore my signal switch apart to clean it and to find out why the hazard switch was stuck halfway in and making the turn signal relay buzz. Turns out it was a tangled mess of springs, contacts, way too much dielectric grease, and plastic shavings. I pulled the contacts and pegged the button in place to keep it from vibrating in and out, which would drive me insane. Heard a whole lot less buzzing, but the relay is still buzzing. Looks like I'll be replacing it next.

I was once asked what firearm I keep handy to defend myself at home.
I said, "I've got 4 pitbulls, a german shepherd, a blue heeler, 7 angry chickens, an attack rooster,
5 teenage boys, and a fiance who's forced to babysit a 37 year old man-child. And you're worried about firearms...
