Hello fellow members,
I'm a retired "public servant" riding a 1991 GL1500 Interstate that was just brought out of 8+yrs wet storage. I'm looking for help/advice to keep this beast on the road.

throw out the old gasoline, drain the carb bowls,
new oil- chevron DELO LE 15-40 Diesel oil is good in the 1500 and only 12$ a gallon.
Fresh diff fluid, only holds 4.7 oz of 80-90 HYPOID gear oil, change that ever year or with oil change.

Seafoam is your new friend- buy 2 cans, use 2 ounces per gallon of fuel thru gas tank thru 3-4 tanks will remove gum and varnish, carbon buildup and general ugliness inside from riding and from sitting.

Use Seafoam in the oil before change, add 6 ounces to engine oil, ride 100-200 miles. Drain oil while fluid is warm.

I know, what a bummer- have to go for a nice ride in order to change the oil!!

Welcome to the forum and the world of Wingnuts

Sounds like GREAT advice, thanks!!!

The Delo 400 LE seems to be discontinued though. Chevron says that Delo 400 SDE 15-40W is the "New and improved" version of this same application. It has less phosphorous and a bit less viscosity but overall performance is said to be "better". I picked some up, just like you suggest and will get busy doing some riding!
Thanks again

Yes, I have to get used to the name change on the DELO to SDE formula Diesel engine oil.
Same stuff is fine in most cages
(excluding high performance euro spec special oil vehicles with different needs)
