Hello

Let me introduce me

I'm the third owner of a 1984, GL 1200, low mileage; only 53000 miles from the begining.
I'm sure of miles, I got the papers with the complete story from 1984.

Sold new in Switzerland this model named GL 1200 interstate,(frameSC144 made in USA ,Engine SC14E 2424087 made in japan, both Californian numbers ??
perhaps bikes sold in Switzerland were Californian model, but no secondary air supply system and evaporation control system on it )
in 2003 the bike crossed the Swiss/French border to be bought by a scotish citizen living in France, I bought it in june 2017 to this gentleman.
Wonderfull shape, I just had to change cylinder head badly damaged. goldwings disease ??(photo) + timing belt, adjustments and synchro, the bike had not run for 4 years
The parts being hard to find here, I bought two US heads + a reed case and tubes ,( tks ebay) and I mounted a secondary air supply system on it. ( system that was not mounted initially )
It's strange because this bike has Californian matching numbers but nothing that characterizes these models.

any information regarding the cylinder heads and numbers subjects would be welcome

Warm regards and All the best !!!
Eric

Honda built a plant in Marysville Ohio and assembled the 1200 there but I think the engines still came from Honda in Japan,I don’t remember any difference in the 1200 heads in the 4 years they were built.
Does emissions there require the California system,my 1500 is a Calif, model and it only has a canister and a vent from the fuel cap and some extra lines. If it isn’t required I would leave it off.
Welcome to the Forum, there’s a lot of information on your bike right here.
Never seen a head in that condition, both heads like that?Ive bought fuel in Switzerland and don’t recall fuel being special blend,

Love chasing white lines but they are difficult to catch.Hate drivers with no STOPLIGHTS.

Actually the '84 motor was built in Japan and a few of the first '85s. From then on, until they moved the whole affair back to Japan for the 2012 model, all GL motors were made in Ohio.

And, the '84 & '85 heads show the same part number, but it changes in '86 and then again in '87. What the differences are, I don't know but I personally wouldn't take the chance.

I'm not sure where you got the idea that those numbers equal California.

If the heads didn't have the ports for secondary air the bike was built for selling outside of the USA.

Anyway welcome to the forum.

Advise given here is free and comes with no warranty "Caveat emptor"
