Question Hi. Thanks for the add.

Wife & I have been riding our 2008 GL1800 for six years now, logging a total of about 40k miles in that time. Bike has 56k total miles. On a trip last month I began to notice rear brake dragging. I limped it home from Texas using only front brake for the last 200 miles, and took it to our local Honda shop for examination. They still have it in queue, but I suspect it will need a new rotor and pads at the very least.
A friend offered me a final drive ass'y with rotor, removed from a then-new 2012 which was triked with only 50 miles on it, for $100. Is this rotor likely to fit my 2008 bike?
Can the original rotor be turned of its not too chewed up? What does that usually cost?
I appreciate any input.

Welcome. Where exactly in Western Arkansas? Have you have the master cylinder recall done? Yes, the 2012 final drive and rotor are exactly the same as your 08.

Hi, Dave0403. Thanks for the reply. I live in Fort Smith, a couple of hours north of Amity. I should have mentioned we had the brake recall done a year or so after we got the bike (2014-2015). Problem started on a road trip through south Louisiana two weeks a ago, after riding through a flooded section of roadway. As I drove out of the water, I noticed a scraping, scratching sound, which went away, but then came and went from time to time afterward. A couple of days later (in Texas) I noticed my gas mileage was not up to par (around 25 mpg, instead of the usual 40+), and noticed the scraping sound again. Got down on the ground to take a look and saw grooves and galling of the rear rotor, and the rotor was hot to the touch. I tapped on the brake caliper with a wrench, in hope of loosening the pads (seemed to help - the dragging sounds stopped) then limped on home using only front brakes.
In hindsight, I should have sought a Honda shop somewhere in Louisiana, but we had a schedule to keep, and for some reason I believed the problem was minor, until it got worse in Texas.
Thanks agin for the info.

Be aware there was a second recall, the first was only an inspection and they all passed, the second they actually replaced parts. That was after Oct. 2015.

I have an '02 with a brand new rear end assembly out of a 2010.
as Dave said, they are all the same.
