Old guy trying to save an old GL1200
Going on 70 been riding as long as I can remember. Just bought an 85 GL1200 for parts but it's a complete bike and if I can get it titled I'll ride it a while before I sell it. It's just something to keep me occupied during some of my retirement. I've been on many car and mc forums since I'm a gearhead by nature and have restored a few old cars and have found most forum members to be helpful and knowledgeable.
So beware, I need guidance and advice with this Honda. I'm well versed with Chevys, Fords, and Harleys but this is my first Honda since my dirt bike days. I want to make it a running driving bike in hopes of making a little on it. It has been cranked but runs poorly. It's been stored for years though and I'm sure the carbs need a lot of attention as well as many maintenance issues from it's disuse. I just cleaned the clutch slave cylinder and I'm waiting on a kit to rebuild the clutch master cylinder. I've also found the rear brake master cylinder to be non functional. I also decided to remove the fuel tank and clean it but I quickly found out that's going to be a major job. Looks like the whole back end of the bike has to be dis- assembled to get it out, I just thought my old vrod tank was a pain to get out!!!
