my shotgun is a venerable 20 ga Stevens that I got for Christmas when I was 8 years old, break over, single shot of course.

My .223 is a Ruger Mini-14 and I can pull the trigger on that thing pretty fast.

those are backed up with a .45 hydrashock, and two 9mm hydrashocks pistols.

hope none of them ever need to be fired in anger...

Posting that kind of info can get you in a lot of hot water if anything at all mysterious happens in your town!

This reminds me of the eighty some years old woman that gets stopped by a cop. She says to him that she has a ccw and a gun in her purse. Then the cop asks her if she has any other weapons in the car, "yes sure she replies, I have a Colt in the glove compartment a S&W on my waist and a shot gun in the trunk"
"What are you afraid of" the cop asks
"Not a darn thing" the old lady replies
Shooter, AZgl1800 and ka4yqi like this.

I make sense all the time. The problem is you only listen intermittently

I'm too lazy to post links to support that, but we all know how to use Google.
Depending on what bullet is used, maybe. If the 9mm is a FMJ & the 223 is a varmint bullet, maybe. If both are FMJs then no way.

With no God over the state, the state then becomes not the defender of liberty but the definer of liberty.

I'm gonna guess that 99.999% of .223 that's used is bog-standard FMJ?

Not all. 223 ammo is either fmj or varmint. I was simply suggesting to consider an alternative that not everyone thinks about. YMMV.

By all means, use what you are most comfortable with. The important thing is to be prepared to defend you and yours.
