7MM-08 is the one I like.

I have taken whitetail At 300 yards with mine, with an Encore handgun 14 barrel.

It definitely gets the job done.

A well placed round from either cartridge will be fine. Select the rifle you like best, in either chambering.

Too soon old, too late smart.

I shoot walnuts out of the tree with my .17 pellet gun, can drop 2 in one shot if I shoot at the stem junction. Have taken more than a few lightening bugs, spiders, & carpenter bees with my BB gun.

If I had a choice of only one rifle for all around use it would be the 30-06

Personally I like reloading and this rifle allows me to reload for varmint's all the way up to any north American big game I want to hunt. You can reload 90 - 220 grain rounds. so its a very versatile firearm.

However I also like my 300 Weatherby Mag if I really want to reach out and touch something.

Unless you feel "weird" and want to shoot sabots, all the way down to 30 grain or so. Pushes stoopid velocities.
