I changed my Swappiness vm.swappiness=1

You know, windows didn't get that bad over night! It took fifteen years of careful development!

I am running Cinnamon 18.3 on my old EliteBook 8530 with 4gb ram and it is doing great. I never even turn on my Win 7 laptop any more. Linux is sure different from what it was 12 years ago. I have GnuCash on it and it's doing great also. Cinnamon runs a lot better on this than Vista ever did and it's better than Win 7 on the other laptop. This laptop is about 10 years old. I put an SSD in it in 2013.

GnuCash and me, just never were able to get along good.

I prefer a "Checkbook", not Double Entry Accounting....
I really moaned and groaned with Quicken disappeared, and refused to talk to the banks.

Now, I just use a spreadsheet for annual records......
Download the current calendar year, and store that in a folder.

I imported from Quicken and then just hid the expense accounts on the main page. Made it look more like quicken. For me that works better than a spreadsheet.

I will look at it again, but I refuse to do double entry...

uh, do you still have to manually enter all of the transactions?

if it won't take an upload from .csv file, I won't use it.

I believe so. I know you can import a .csv file.

OK, I finally figured out how to get an image to post here.
Do I need to do these updates?

No hurry,

I would get used to the system first, and not be in a hurry to confuse things.

the nice thing about Linux, is you can forget updates almost forever, and it will never complain, and most likely you will never have a problem.

that said, those are Security Updates that need to be applied, but wait until I get home, or someone else helps you, like Rudy.

I'm gallivanting all over the place in Georgia right now.....
and Rudy is one of my "must see" friends.... But, I will NOT ride the scooter to Atlanta, the traffic does not respect big diesel trucks much less a scooter.

for me?
I have a hidden program running called a "crontab job" that installs all updates w/o me even looking to see what they are.
It has never caused a problem.

BUT, I have two backup programs running to save my arse in the off chance something does go wrong....

I would prefer, you ignore updates until I am home.

Can't blame ya for that John. Unless you know the back ways in, you are better off staying out. Ask Dusty about that. I only leave the house when I have to for that reason.

Anyway, that upgrade includes replacing an old kernel with the current one so in this case I would also suggest waiting and making sure a backup exists first. If this were a near version update, it would likely go fine. Hopping multiple releases at once can make for unforeseen problems sometimes. Developers can't reasonably check for problems way back. They assume you are one level back and that's what they debug for unless something obvious comes up during testing. Kernel replacements are among the few things that require a reboot as well.
This is pretty much normal with fresh installs due to the versions that were in the package when it was created.

Have fun down there John and say hi to everybody for me.
