Just received my new Corbin to replace the stock seat on my '81 GL1100. Problem is, the new seat has drastically different dimensions, esp. the second seat, making it impossible to re-install the trunk!

Is this typical? Shouldn't there be some warning on the Corbin site? Anyone else seen this problem?

They might have sent you the wrong seat. Corbin is pretty easy to deal with and they'll get it straightened out. Give them a call.

I haven't hear of this with a Corbin. I had bad experience with a Road Sofa not fitting my GL1500 (it did fit but there was a 2" gap where it meets the pillion pad). but RS did refund me. I'd get onto Corbin about this.
Does your GL1100 have the adjustable trunk rack? If so you can move it back and get the saddle on easier.

They may have sent you an '83 GL1100 seat. The seat on the '83 was longer by 2", than the '80 to '82 ones. If you can get the luggage rack from an '83, and it will move your trunk back 2". There are also aftermarket trunk relocater brackets that do the same thing. Will it fit if the trunk was moved back 2"??

Raymond and Willy are both right. The 83 had longer saddle and the trunk was moved back. It would be nice to keep the long saddle and buy the trunk relocating part of the rack.

Talked with Corbin this morning, and are going to retrieve the seat and rework it. I found that the trunk would install with the seat in the extreme forward position, but they acknowledged that is not tenable for my 6'1" frame. I will lose the ability to install a backrest, but will gain about 3" without sacrificing rear passenger room (?!). I'll keep you posted...

Sounds like they're taking care of you.

I had my seat made right there at the Corbin factory. Really nice people to deal with.

Update: Corbin reworked the seat to move the drivers bucket back a couple inches. Did all the work plus shipping for free. Kudos. The seat is firm, but I think I will like it that way. Is also a bit wider than the OEM.

In addition, I picked up a slightly extended trunk-rack from an '82 Aspy to allow the trunk to mount. Nice seat and more room for all.

Sounds to me like you received the wrong seat. I ordered one for my '84 Aspencade and it was perfect in all ways. They even sent the backrest for the driver which I didn't order and gave me discount if I would buy that. They didn't send my passenger's backrest but after calling them, I had it in just a couple of days.

Absolutely happy with mine.
