Thanks, I know now that the engine HAS to be removed in order to change the stator. Bob

There are a lot of posts and threads about this already Bob. Good news is that you don't need to pull the engine. You may need to remove the rearmost exhaust stud after dropping the pipes an inch or so. Also, when the starter motor is loosened and just before you pull it you should drop the Wing onto the side stand. This is so that the starter sprocket won't roll out of the chain and inside the engine.

Sorry Bob, I misread your post, I thought it was about the Starter, not the Stator. Stator removal need the engine to be removed first on all the 4 cylinder Wings and I don't know of a way round this.

I can't say first hand as to the 1000s but, I can say first hand that on the 1100s the engine does not need to be removed.
