86 escalade won't start but backfires--any suggestions?

Just bought this bike--love it--The carbs have been rebuilt recently. It ran OK, then the next am it wouldn't start, only backfire. Run the choke it backfires only louder.

I could use a repair manual?

Thanks for the replies

Hi there Kemosaby and welcome to the forum. Before the guru's get here you really need to provide a little more info. This just start? Had the bike long? Do any work on it recently? Bike won't start isn't much to go on....

I take it the bike was running fine and just started this ?
Carbs or timing. Has the bike been sitting long ? I am going with the carbs if nothing has been done to it and it just started. Does it backfire on deceleration only ? If so you need to take a look at the air cutoff valves.
While waiting for a guru answer, maybe run a half a can of seafoam thru the gas
