I found a picture of a 1100 srew that shows that the spring go's on first, then a washer and O ring. Is it the same on 1000 carbs?

I don't recall a washer?? But the spring goes in then the mix screw with the oring on it.

Both of these are correct, the 1100 is different from the 1000.

Here is a clipping from a diagram for the 79 GL1000.
