Previous PO had air horns mounted under the sidecar. He had removed the OEM horns. They didn't work when we bought the GL 1100.My son and Icleaned them andgot them working. I hit the horn button a couple days ago and the sound is about like a choking goose. I want to install the Stebel Horn on the bike, not under the sidecar.

I have done a search on the forum and read a lot of information from nearly two years ago so I do have some ideas.

Any suggestions on where tomount the horn on a GL 1100A would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Not that I can particularly help you choose where to put it Wichita, but what colour horn do you have, black or chromed model? This might make a difference to folks responding, as the chrome might be more acceptable if it were more on show.

Aparently they don't like the weather too much so it might be better to tuck it away some to protect it.

I seem to remember that therre were pics of the Nautilus mounted around the top of the front crash bars, but tucked slightly behind the rad, though this may hae been on 1200's.

I am not much help, but this might just wake up the guys who have done the change over.

Pete

behind the lower fairing is a good place, mine are on the 1200 inter, i had to take the horn away, i use the existing horn wires and put a relay in line, that way you can use the horn button,, left or right side, it doent matter

Where would you recommend fitting Stebel Nautiluson a 1981GL1100 standard? (Thanks again Silverfox)

I'm mid way through a rebuild and trying to envisage a suitable mounting point. Will there bespace between the carbs and radiator? or under the dummy tank?

I think I'll take the long road

theres not that many places, if youve got room inside faux tank assuming you can fasten it down, i would also put a small foam or rubber cushion underneath, you could put it somewhere under the headlight near the the bottom yoke, or you could buy a tool roll and put it inside, i think your gonna have to use your imagination

On myGS-1000 I tried mounting them facing out from under the fairing...not a good way too much dust, water, got in them .Next set I mounted on the backside of the fairing didnt have a problem there, except when you pushed the horn button it was rather loud to not only the cager, butto meas well.

I doubt any small air horn you can buy has a dust, water shield like the big rigs do, but it maybe only way to keep exessive water and dust out. I'll bet someone has an idea on how to make a dust shield for them.

Silverfox, I don't have a Stebel horn on hand. Waiting to see where others mounted them.

Still thinking about maybe the GL 1800 horns too if they would mountto the OEM horn brackets on the GL1100A. I can't find the GL 1800 horn on online Honda parts sites so don't know the cost or shape/size. I did search on this forum and saw pictures but only one GL 1100 and the Stebel horn was mounted on the left engine guard. I would rather have the horn hidden or mount to stock horn brackets.

I just needdecide where to mount and decide what horn to buy.

I do know how to do the wiring, so that is not a question.

I would say under the lower fairings. Thats where the cruise control servo unitwas on one of mine so you might have enough room. JB
