Hello all,

My brother's Wing just shut off at a stop sign the other day. No lights, horn, nothing.

Get her back home and charged the battery and start taking off panels. There's no bad fuses or loose connections.

Setting cold and off the battery reads 12.4 volts. Started and running @ 2000 rpm the voltage across the terminals reads 11.1 volts.

Now, I'm no mechanic , heck before I started reading this page I couldn't even spell mechanic, but I say his alternator is shot.

Please confirm my diagnosis.

Where should we seek a replacement

All opinions welcome.

Thanks, Rick

Your diagnosis soundsreasonable.

Try starting the bike and disconnect the battery. The engine should die if the alternator is not putting out system voltage for the ignition system. If it runs, measure the voltage at the battery cable leads.

Does that 88 have a center LED display on the dash?

you should show 13-14 volts at idle. The alternator on the 1500s charges at idle, no need to go any higher on RPM. Pull the alternator and break it down, it might be something as simple as stuck brushes.

All 1500s have a center LED display.

Oh, there were no Aspencades in 1988, all GL1500s were just that, a GL1500, all came with reverse, stereo, cruise, intercom.
