so my bike backfires sometimes
for the past couple years it has been doing this but in the last year it has picked up pace. it usually happens when i get off the freeway after at least 5miles and when i'm coasting down a long, steep hill

i just had the stator replaced and the timing belts replaced
it did this before that work and is still doing it

the bike runs just fine but its annoying sounding

i only put mid or high grade fuel in

any suggestions or comments?

I had a similar problem, my 1200 would backfire when exiting the freeway on the off ramp. I synchronized the carbs and found one of them to be way off. After that i have not had any problems.

Another likely culprit is a bad air cutoff valve.

ok here's a stupid question:

can i synch the carbs myself or do i need to take it to a shop?

You just need mercury manometers (spelling???) :baffled:

I've been doing my own syncro's for the last 20 years. It only takes about 1 hour to get it done... But make sure everything else is up to snuff. Like valve adjustment, etc...
