On my 1500, I have a flat spot at around 2000-3000 rpm, if I'm giving it moderate throttle. If I take it real easy or give it full throttle, I don't notice the flat spot at all, yeah I know it's weird. I've synch the carbs less then a 1000 miles ago and done a complete tune-up( plugs and air filter check). The bike has around 58,000 miles. Is it possible for the belt(timing) to be worn enough to affect timing???

hi jack was the prob there before you tuned the bike when you tuned up the bike did you replace the sub filter on the air jet solinoids you say you cleaned the air filter ??? please explane and the spotis not when you open the trottle hard correct , timeing belt wont affect it but when were they last changed what milage on the bike

You didn't mention replacing the fuel filter either.

Fuel filter was replaced last summer, there is around 58,000 miles on the bike. I looked at the air filter with a light shining through the element and blowed compressed air from the inside out, also wiped down the air box. Sub filter on the jet solinds?? Timing belt as far as I know has never been replaced. I'm the 2nd owner, the first worked for a local Honda shop. They did all the maintaince prior to my purchese of the bike.

hi jack you could do with replacing the timeing belts they should be done at 50k failer to do so is very expansive the air jet filter is behind the right side false tank quiet a bit of tubberwere to get to but over time they disinagrate and get sucked into the carb passages you will need to remove the radio shelter for this with the air filter off there are 2 jets worked off the accelarator pump one in each carb faceing down the carb trought when you twist the trottle they give a spurt of extra gas to stop a flat spot until the main jet kicks in prop you need to confirm that the gas is getting through these jetsyou dident say weather the the prob was there before the tune up can you verafie

Yes it was there before I replaced the plugs. It's not real bad, just bad enough to be noticed.
