One of the bulbs on my '99 SE is out. They're setup to be on all the time as opposed to when the turn signal is on. What bulb goes in there? Of course I could figure it out by removing the old one and looking at it but I want to get them before disassembling the front of the bike.

You will not find these bulb locally, but Cyclemax has the best price on them...

CYCLEMAX

Also, there are two elements in these bulb and only one is used-you can bridge the two terminals with solder to enable the other element doubling the life of the bulb.

Yep, that's the deal! I tried using the second element, works like a dream. I used those while waiting for the new bulbs, and still are using them! Give it a shot! I think I paid $4 or 5 bucks a bulb from CycleMax. Good luck! jimsjinx

Rather than soldering the terminals together on the contact plate, I found that just removing the contact plate, rotating it 180 degrees and re-installing it in the bulb socket let me use the second bulb element. This leaves the option open to using both elements on future bulbs.

I'm currently working on converting the cornering lights to LED. If I have any success, I'll publish the technique I came up with.

Somewhere in the Tech Posts someone I think it might have been Rudy has come up with a way to put LED's in there with optimal success. If I remember you get better lighting and of course the long life LED bulbs.

I like to replace mine with H1 Bulbs. 100W should be OK, but I'm afraid of the heat build up, any experience there?

As for the original question; just like said earlier, Cyclemax has them and you won't find them locally unless you have a local scooter store. I just replaced mine and is burning both elements simultaneously.

100W bulbswould have me thinking twice about heat as well (OEM for the 34901-GM0-003'98-'00 SE's "running" lampbulb is 18W) so, there is a bit of a change there... OEM would have you running a 2.6-Amp load, your current configuration is 5.3A, the 100W would be 16+A and all through a 15A fuse with panel lights and such, so separate sourcing to the controlling relays may be wise.

It'll be interesting to see what you come up with, the "odd bulb" usage in these lamps has been one of the banes of design for the 1500s (cornering for pre'98 and running after BOTH take goofy-ass bulbs)

Additionally, you may want to look at the H3 bulbs for this mod (in lieu of the H1) the element positioning in the H3 is closer to the OEM positioning allowing the lens and reflector to operate a bit more predictably) -- I'd wager that a simple plate adaptor with ground lug could be used to adapt the H# directly to the existing '98+ lamp socket...
