Question: For a 2008 GL1800 - What is the purpose of the large silver hex bolt/plugbehind and a little to the right of the oil filter for? thx

This may or may not help. On the GL1500's, there is such a bolt/plug that was used by the factory during manufacturing and assembly of the engine. It is nothing that needs to be removed or such.
