Snorebrother's clutch fluid is disappering:shock85 1200 Aspy). A couple of months ago I bled the clutch master cylinder and all is well. All connections tight. No signs of leakage. No problems until just last week. No resistance when pulling in clutch. Took the cover off master cylinder and.......NO (low) FLUID!!
Refilled/bled and all is well again. My question is...where is it going? There are no signs of leaking anywhere. The only thing I can come up with is that it is leaking internally in the slave cylinder. Is that possible? Any answers greatly appreciated. For now we will check the fluid once a week when ridden regularly and look for leakage.
Sounds like slave cylinder. It should show signs of leaking under the cylinder where it mounts to the back of the transmission/ engine. Try pulling the clutch lever in and out about twenty times and watch to see for any signs of leak under the cylinder. Tony:waving:
The same thing happened to me when I had my 1200. Fortunately the slave cylender is easy to rebuild. The hardest part is bleeding the system when you put all new brake fluid in. I had a post on it a few years ago but it seems to be gone. But thats where the fluid is going.
Actually, bleeding should be fairly easy with a Mity Vac pump. Ireplaced the cluch and brake fluids with synthetic fluidon my VTX by my self. Tool about a half an hour.
Just be careful on taking the clutchpipe off. The 12 my uncle bought had a leaking slave cylinder, when he took it off the rebuild, the clutch pipe broke, none available, had to go to a slavage yard to find one. That was after having a couple of hydraulic shops trying to make him one.
i think i stlll have a good one if your interested? the fluid is going into the engine if you don't see it. the slave will leak into the engine oil so you will need to change the oil as well as the slave. it will not do the engine any good if he keeps rideing it.
happy new year snorbaby, i had a 1985 1200. it was doing the same thing, i can tell you it WAS leaking through the slave cylinder. replaced it and never leaked again. good luck. its a fairly easy job to replace it. $20.00
only half of it's from hell now. the part you had a little fun on is still from hell or going to hell or gone to hell. it's bad. grand canyon is filled with concrete now though.
With the master cylinder so high on the bike and the slave cylinder so low, it should be easy to let gravity bleed the line. It works for the brakes on a GL1000.
