I have ordered some progressive fork springs for my 1500. My 1200 came with them installed and I really liked the feel of the progressive springs over the stock springs and want to put them in the 1500, but I want to tackle this as a do it yourself project. Anyone have any step by step directions on this installation?

There's probably a DIY link here for Progressive springs but what I'd advise is to pull the forks, clean everything out and make sure to install new fork oil. Progressive calls for 15wt fork oil but I use 10wt in mine... it feels better to me than the 15wt.

Depends on the ride you desire. I find ATF which is around 15W to work best for me with Progressive springs in my '93 Aspy. You can install them by simply removing the fork caps pulling out the old springs and put in the new ones. The problem is that's difficult due to the amount of pressure it takes to get the Progressive springs compressed enough to screw the caps back on. I did the job by removing the forks from the bike. That requires removing the front wheel, hanging the calipers from a wire from the bike, removing the fender and all that stuff. After that it's a matter of loosening the clamps bolts on the steering stem (triple tree) and sliding the forks off the bike. Take a look at Rudy's site and you'll see the jig I used to do the job on my bike.
