I need some help.....Soundgate HONPDDSDR

I wish I did a little more investigation prior to purchasing the Soundgate HONPDSDR and iPod Nano 16G (5th gen).....

I have the Soundgate HONPDSDR and iPod Nano 16G (5th gen) installed on my 2008 Golwing but it is not working 100%. Install was easy, I just wish they supplied longer cables.

The Soundgate HONPDSDR and iPod Nano 16G (5th gen) was recognized by my Goldwing in CD mode. I can listen to music from my iPod but I cannot control the tracks or select the playlist from my bike's handle bar controls. I can see the display change on my Goldwing when I toggle between REPEAT and RANDOM by pressing the Preset 1 and Preset 2, but the iPod will not respond to either. The Golwing display always shows Track 1. (see photo)

Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this problem? Is it a hardware problem with my bike? Do I have a defective Soundgate? Is my iPod or the iPod's software to blame?

Looking for some advice:baffled:

It should work, some owners here have the Soundgate connected to iPhones. The obvious first checkpoints will be the connections. If they are all right then your Soundgate has to be suspect.

I have the soundgate on my wish-list. I helped a buddy fit one and like you found the harness too short, didn't matter what way we routed it the harness was too short. We used on of the spare harnesses that came with the kit to make a longer one and it worked, but would have been better not to have to do all that messing about.
The system works as they say, I have not heard of any that didn't work with the bar controls. My guess is you got a bad one, sent it back for another.

If anyone else is considering the Soundgate, here is the down and dirty I found out:

The big plus for me is it resumes the song where it left off. Pauses Ipod or IPhone when switched off/switched to another audio source. Volume, scroll songs and playlist from left bar controller and radio controls and preset buttons.
Playlists control, volume, next/previous tracks, random all, repeat playlist, etc.

Check your DIP switches. Make sure you set it up correctly. Also, there is a specific step in the installation that says not to turn it on immediately and you have to have the unit recognize the device by turning power on and off at certain intervals. Check that procedure and do that. Follow it precisely as it says and let us know if it works.

Thanks for all the feedback....

I have a call into Soundgate, I believe there is a problem with Soundgate's software. I have heard from others Soundgate's or Apple's software has a compatability issue.

As for the short cables supplied by Soundgate, try this website for extensions. RADTECH

http://www.radtech.us/Products/CablesiPod.aspx#DockExtender

You cant go wrong; RadTech will accept returns if there is a compatability issue with differnt versions of iPods.
