i just this 90 1500 up and running i rebuilt carbs, replaced all vacuum lines, i just took it out for the first ride and it wont go over 55, goes 55 in 3rd gear, 55 in 4th gear rpm 3000, 55 in 5th gear rpm 2400, runs fine, sitting still reves up to 4000, or maybe higher, just dint push it. is there something that might limit the speed to 55?

check carb diaphrams and see if they are seated correctly. Make sure they did not pop out of place when you put top covers on.

This may sound crazy, but can cruise control on these bikes cause something like this? I know in a cage that application of throttle while in cruise will still cause acceleration over the cruise setting. That is just a shot in the dark. The bike probably just isn't running right. It does sound funny though. A 1500 running on three cylinders alone should be able to get to 55! I did some extreme speed on my 76 and it isn't running right.

I am unopposed to horizontally opposed engines, are you inline with that?

It sounds like the carbs are not opening fully. Confirm your throttle adjustment.

If ya cant fix it with a hammer, it's prolly lectrical

sounds like to me there is a computer problem limiting it, i know on tractor trailer trucks they do the same thing,,, well almost, they will do 70 in 9th and 70 in 10th or whatever the shop sets it to do but they are governed by computer........ maybe a goldwing has the same "option"?

some of my past rides:

Did you by chance change the filter? Mine did that after a can of seafoam treatment, I am guessing it loosened up some stuff in the tank. I couldnt hardly blow through the filter. Replaced, fixed...

throttle is fully opening, but it seems to not have any horse power, sitting it revs up fine under load acceleration is sluggish and it will only attain 55 but the rpms match 5 th gear 2500 rpm or 4th gear 3000 rpm, but i hold full throttle or half and no change in rpm or speed.
